»Any rock fans here?«

It seems like the thread about Korn and Metallica really ought to be in this section.

Anyone heard the new Radiohead mini-album "Com Lag". It's generally just b sides but I don't tend to get the singles. If anyone has heard the song "gagging order" it's one of their best chill out songs.

I wasn't that impressed with the two remixes. I'd much rather they had more live songs. Radiohead do some really interesting stuff with their songs to make them work live. On the "I might be wrong" EP there is a really cool live version of 'spinning plates' and "Drunken Punchup At A Wedding" was amazing live!

Please god say you don't class Radiohead as rock?

If you want my definition of rock then it's Queen, Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne ect Very Happy

btw this is not an attack but a question Thumb Up

In my opinion Queen and Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden count as long-haired bands. It's a different kind of rock (not worth taking particularly seriously, but fun on the right occaision - in Queen's case any occaision where you want to have some fun Wink)

I think there is a case for saying that certain music is rock and certain music is 'indie' but there are certain bands for which I feel the term 'indie' to be an insult.

Oasis, Blur, Coldplay, Keane, Ash and Feeder are all called 'indie' for a good reason. That reason is that they all suck! There are a few exceptions where bands can still be fairly easily be referred to as indie and may not necessarily suck all the time eg. The Smiths, Electric Six, The Strokes

For bands like Radiohead, Von Bondies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Distillers and The White Stripes the term 'indie' is a horrible insult. I can't think of anything worse than these bands being equated with indie scum. They are what I would refer to as "light rock".

Sure these light rock bands aren't Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Soil, Spineshank, Korn, machine head, drowning pool, eighties matchbox b-line disaster, rage against the machine, disturbed or thursday. But they are still bands that could be played alongside the heavier rock without too much of a fuss. (I recognise that some of those 'heavier' bands like Thursday have odd genre names - but I really couldn't give a f**k Wink)

Any rock fans here?

I consider my self a Rock fan...

If by Rock you mean: Korn and Rammstein and Incubus...into that new metal stuff...hate Limp Bizkit though...Deftones are also really good...but if you are talking about bands like Kiss and Iron Maiden and BS like that then I'm not a Rock fan...and stuff like Pearl Jam and Deep Purple...cant say i like that kind of rock either.

But Coldplay and Rock in the same sentence What the...?

I would call it Brit Pop yuck

Soft rock

Let's not forget: Elvis Presley is Rock. And, oh, Shakin' Stevens.

Rammstein, of course, is hard rock.

Rammstein Rule

First, Rammstein's great. But I wouldn't say they're rock, they're more of a machine heavy metal kinda band.

Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Black Sabbath and Kiss are four perfect examples of what original Rock and Roll is like. Although they aren't the first rock and roll bands (the Beatles, Elvis), they're the most influential to heavy metal.
Bands like Rage Against the Machine, Rob Zombie and Metallica pay tribute to these old bands (RATM's tribute song to ACDC, Metallica's playing with Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie singing with Ozzy Osbourne) as they influenced them.
Led Zeppelin and the rest aren't the only originals but they're the first that come to mine and my favourite.

Classing EVERYTHING as rock and roll would just create a bit too much annoyance at a music store wouldn't it? But there are a bit too many genres coming out of people's arses for my liking. Alternative rock? ANYTHING'S AN ALTERNATIVE TO ROCK SO WHAT THE HELL!

What BS is that?

Anyway, I like "Sonne" by Rammstein. That's an awesome song. Kiss is such a poppy and long haired pile of rubbish. Thankfully no one has mentioned Guns and Roses (glorified country music in my opinion!).
