»Best P2P program?«

knn:
Yesterday I came across
shareaza.com...

What a brilliant little prog
Open source, no spyware, no advertising... and the best

It connects to 4 networks (edonkey, gnutella1, gnutella2, bittorrent).

Brilliant.

I used to use Shareaza, but I think mine actually had spyware with it, so I got rid of it! I've gone back to it but I've fallen in love with Ares!

Can be great, depending on what you wanna download!

I also use eDonkey2000, ever since Marl gave me a link to a torrent site!

Great site for games, just do a search for a game in the search bar in the top right and you might get it! So far I've downloaded Fallout 2, and am downloading Painkiller and RollerCoasterTycoon 3 right now! So I just use eDonkey for Game Downloads, and Ares for Music/Music Videos/Movies!

well i got rid of kazaa-lite finally, every song you would Dl'd would be worthless

i've been using bearshare for a couple days now and find it to be nice, actually i haven't DL'd a deadend song yet...

the only downside i've seen so far is a advertising popup, but it only happens on rare occasions while on the internet and always pops up behind your current screen so easy to get rid of...but like i said i've only had to click close a max of 5 times thus far

decent speed on bearshare too, got a 70mb full cd in about 7 minutes with my DSL

That's because the only music you are allowed to share is some free stuff from indipendent underground groups...

Yes it is

Oh and for those of you that favour Bit Torrent, I feel it only fair to mention that this has now been targetted by the Film and Music Industry and (according to some) has been used to track down and prosecute file sharers.

The story revolves around the early release of SWIII, and the speed with which this was reported. Many feel that it's release was a honey trap put onto the networks by the film industry in order to:-

a) track and locate filesharers

The copy circulating is a studio Work print, something which very few people would have had access to, all of them employed by the industry.

How else would they have any idea how many people had downloaded the film prior to its cinema release - information which (on a P2P network) can only be provided by the client software sharing the file

b) create a media frenzy over the evils of P2P

Something which - if true - backfired badly, since the sharing did little to impact the record breaking box office takings of SWIII

I thought that got shut down about a few years ago for good, so I used Kazaa. Kazaa was awful, I've been through a few P2P programs since then, I'm pretty fucking happy with the one I have now.

Can't remember, this was back in the days when Napster and Kazaa were getting alot of trouble. Back when the whole anti-P2P thing started getting into swing.

i did not read all the posts in this thread but skimmed a few...in my opinion the first thing i would install for p2p is peer guardian 2 ...then i use ares, limewire, emule, edonkey, and torrents...limewire's search results are a bit flaky as you get many false matches...i like ares but cannot always find what i am looking for with it...emule and edonkey are way to slow...but can soetimes find what i am looking for with them...torrents are good but require more steps then the others (when i am looking for software i like torrents a lot)...but again peerguardian is the first thing i want if i am going to do any kind of p2p...security! ...security!...security!
