Which is the best P2P program? Reasons please. I use only Bearshare, but I'm not very satisfied with the results. I've heard that people who use Kazaa are abducted by trojans from Andromeda so I want some opinions. posted by ralph_angelus |

Quote: Kazaa Kazaa is not only stuffed with Malware, but also slows down the computer until no more working is possible. Once I tried it on my 3000Mhz Intel Pentium working/surfing was very limited. posted by knn |

Shareaza I've found to be very useful. Doesn't stuff your computer to Kazaas extent, only down side to it finding reliable sources. It's great for downloading music though, best strategy is to just download every found source for a song and hope one starts downloading. posted by hungarian kid |

I use Emule, can be slow but if you are patient it will get what ever you want. the key to fast downloads with mule is always leave it on in the background, if you keep turning it on and off it will never get in the que, this is a common mistake by people using it for the first time, they think it should work like kazaa and it doesnt. posted by Crossfade |

Thanks. My problem is there's not enough sources. And the ones which show up are always dead or busy. Is it possible to make a definitive judgement about which one has the most? posted by ralph_angelus |

The best type to go for is one that supports fragmented downloading and sharing of incomplete files (Overnet, e-Donkey, E-mule etc.) With the older types - Direct Connect - The file is downloaded sequentially and so can only be got from people who have more of it than you. When other people complete the download many simply burn or move the file and so the source dissapears - getting that last bit is often tricky. With Fragmented (or segmented) downloading, as soon as a segment (9.5 Meg for the Donkey) has downloaded, it is automatically shared for access by someone else. This way, if a file takes a couple of days to complete and you burn or remove it immediately, then parts of it will have been shared for the two days you were getting it. Also, there is no need for people to have more of it than you as long as all the bits are out there somewhere. You can download a 700 Meg image from 700 different people who only have a meg each. Systems that allow the user to contol who they share with limits possible sources and leads to leeching. Sure there are people who've hacked clients to stop them sharing, but I wouldn't advise it. And here's why You've installed a piece of software on your PC that has (by the very nature of what it does) read/write access to your HDD. You use this software while connected to the internet and the software has code to link back to it's home site. Potentially the home site can issue commands to the software. Remember the WRITE access to your HDD? This is one piece of software you don't want to mess about with, it might "accidentally" fuck your system up in return. posted by Marl64 |

hungarian kid: I've tried getting E-mule, but I allways get stuffed in the process (faulty downloads) can ya give me the proper link? (is it the obvious ?) www.emule-project.net You should VERY rarely get fake downloads on emule, all files are verified if you get the links from a good site. besides a download usually has user comments attached to them so you see if it's fake or not posted by Crossfade |

Just download limewire 4.0.5 pro from any other p2p(cuz other than that u hadda pay) then its smooth sailing baby, turbocharged downloads, super-user friendly very organised seaches and multiple searches. You can see which type of connection u download from(T1,cable,modem etc) so u can chose the fastest one if there are multiple links of the same download. posted by BaDboYDC_101 |
