»Ronald Reagan is dead«

Ronald Reagan died on Saturday at age of 93.

He was the president of North-America's united states for 8 years. He left gigantic national debts, gigantic state deficit, a huge gap between rich and poor, millions of homeless people. Billions were wasted in his SDI project, an unrealistic effort to protect the US from foreign powers. As a governor the top personal income rate jumped by nearly 60% and the corporate tax rate doubled. He acceded to a $100 billion tax increase 1982.

MSNBC writes:
MSNBC
[He] drove the deficit to new heights, presiding over a bleak recession [deepest recession since the 1930s]. He often botched his facts. In 1986 Reagan and Gorbachev were on the brink of a deal to abolish all nuclear weapons, but Reagan scuttled it when Gorbachev insisted that the United States abandon its research and development of a missile defense system.

In his religious simplification he called Russia the "Evil empire", the same way George W. Bush called Iraq part of the "Axis of evil".

He suffered his last years from Alzheimer, a disease which some scientists link to irresponsibility. He couldn't talk, think or walk.

George W. Bush banned the use of federal funds to harvest new lines of stem cells for medical research. Stem cells could be the key to heal Alzheimer.

Ronald Reagan and his family were ill. Alzheimer (1994), colon cancer (1985), prostate cancer (1987), skin-cancer (1987), broken hip (2001), pneumonia (2004). His daughter died of brain cancer. Nancy Reagan's step-daughter Maureen Reagan died of skin-cancer. Reagan was nearly shot (1981) by John Hinckley, a former psychiatry patient.

Ronald Reagan was lazy. His underlings said "he wouldn't come to work, all he wanted to do was to watch movies and television at the residence." He closed business in the Oval Office at 5pm.

He was the president for the Republican party, but started his career as a Democrat and changed to the Republicans after betraying at least 6 Hollywood colleagues as communists to the FBI (McCarthy era).

Reagan tried to declare ketchup a vegetable to make every school meal have vegetables by definition.

Reagan secretly sold weapons illegally to Iran. Moreover the money was used to support terrorists in Nicaragua who fought against the democratic government. Reagan's answer in this so called Iran-Contra affair: "I don't remember, period". Many of the key players in this affair have been put into power again by George W. Bush.

Reagan used historic knowledge he gained from Hollywood movies he saw. He himself was an actor in B-movies (Warner Brothers) such as "John Loves Mary" or "For God and Country" and in commercials. He called himself the "Errol Flynn of B-Movies". His father was an alcoholic Irish immigrant. Ronald was married to the same woman for over 50 years. He married her while she was pregnant. He called her "Mommy".

Ronald Reagan was a date-rapist and an adulterer, according to the biography of Nancy Reagan.

A critical documentation about Reagan in the US by the TV channel CBS was suppressed (half a year ago).

Ronald Reagan named his son also "Ronald Reagan", just as George Bush.

== Quotes by Ronald ==
    • "I know all the bad things that happened in [World war 2]. I was in uniform 4 years myself." (Reagan spent the war making Army training films in Hollywood studios.)
    • "I have a suspicion that one little mountain out there, in these last several months, has probably released more sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere than has been released in the last ten years of automobile driving"
    • "All the waste in a year from a nuclear power plant can be stored under a desk."
    • "Approximately 80 percent of our air pollution stems from ... vegetation. So let's not go overboard in setting and enforcing tough emission standards for man-made sources."
    • "[Not] until now has there ever been a time in which so many of the prophecies are coming together. There have been times in the past when people thought the end of the world was coming, and so forth, but never anything like this." (Reagan about the nearness of the end of the world)
    • "Because Vietnam was not a declared war, the veterans are not even eligible for the G.I. Bill of Rights with respect to education or anything."

== Quotes about Ronald ==
• "What planet is he living on?" (Mitterand, President of France)
• "This President is treated by [..] foreign leaders as if he were a child"
• "An amiable dunce" (Clark Clifford, Defense Secretary)
• "There's nothing between his ears." (Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister)
• "He has the ability to make statements that are so far outside the parameters of logic that they leave you speechless" (Reagans daughter Patricia Ann Reagan)
• "Reagan doesn't always check the facts before he makes statements" (Jimmy Carter, president of the USA)

To all the forum readers who think that only Bush is bad, but forget that there were times before the internet.

The biggest president the republicans ever had

Quotes from

• The man who ruined Republicans
• The man who taught Republicans to be irresponsible.
• warmonger
• It is seldom observed that Saddam's gassing of the Kurds, which George W. Bush rightly denounced prior to the Iraq war, occurred on Reagan's watch
• The deficit, which stood at $74 billion in Carter's final year, ballooned to $155 billion in Reagan's final year

the anomaly:
if it werent for him and big maggie...you would all be toast...so show a little respect

Why?

(shit, I'm getting like Zero with my one word reply, better elaborate) Shocked

Why specifically him and maggie?
(as opposed to why should we show respect - that much is obvious)

What did he do to make the Soviet union crash? You know, if you asked the question "Who ended the cold war" then one should probably name the pope, Gorbatshev, Lech Walesa or the ruined soviet system itself. But Ronnie?

econimc pressure

it was the economics of the soviet union that eventually was their downfall...helped along nicely by the pressure added by the other economic giants of the world

the soviets tried to counter this with ingenuity such as this corker

during the space race the americans used millions of dollars researching a pen that could write in the zero gravity vacum of space...the russians used a pencil

FOX news strikes back

Actually when I tried to find something good I found only general things like "He restored America's confidence after the lost Vietnam war". But there were none actual achievements.

And, ahem, I learned it from pro-Bush FOX TV to filter facts.

once someone who is highly respected dies

1) You will hardly ever get below 25% (= at least 25% like you).
2) It seems that Reagan is respected because he was kind of handsome and warm. No real achievements. When Bush dies, he will be respected, too, most probably. But being dead doesn't mean that you were competent and that you deserve respect. Everyone can die, only little can achieve good goals.

2) You are free to untrash ANY of those data. I just couldn't find anything positive about this guy except general friendlinesses.
