I think that religion was fabricated by the Early Man. Religion is a stronghold to make one feel a sense of security and assurance and to control man according to certain standards. It is a well set up system. I belive this is how religion was formed. 1. An all knowing all powerful creator is established. 2. Rules/Guidelines/Books are laid down that are the "holy" way of living to meet this creator's standards. 3. A heaven or Place you go in the afterlife is fabricated. This place is deemed "perfect in all ways"(Never grow old, Never Die, Mansions etc) 4. Finally, "prophets" spread the word to get belivers. This spreads over time and then you have a "religion" This plays out near perfectly, The belivers belive the word of the "prophets" about this Creator. They a nowhere near perfect life on earth(that's why most religious people are middle class or lower class) So they want to get to the "Heaven" after they die to live in "perfectness" and glory. So they follow all the guidelines to achive this and the so called "prophets" who fabricated the whole thing will reap the most benifits.(Power, wealth etc) This thought ran through my head last night, what do u think? Im gonna go get some herbal tea while i wait on the response:aaah: posted by BaDboYDC_101 |

Actually religion was closely linked with early science. Witch doctors, shamen, witches, etc. were generally knowledgable about herbs and medicines. You might even say that early priests were the first psychologists: dealing with guilt, uncertainty and anti-social behaviour. Religion still acts as a kind of therapy, but sometimes it can be less beneficial and, like any bad therapy, can screw you up a bit... Do remember that both Hinduism and the Abrahamic faiths were keen to narrow down the Gods to just the one, while Buddhism did away with Gods altogether. posted by fatpie42 |

When you say that it acts like a therapy you are fully proving my point that religion was made by man to keep themselves assured and comforted. posted by BaDboYDC_101 |

You didn't say that 'God' was fabricated. You said that religion was fabricated. It would be just as correct to say that science and mathematics were fabricated. Were they not created by men? posted by fatpie42 |

I meant that God was fabricated, the point i was trying to make in my first post is that it is all fabricated or obscured by man, everything! posted by BaDboYDC_101 |

Quote: I meant that God was fabricated, the point i was trying to make in my first post is that it is all fabricated or obscured by man, everything! Do you neglect the influence of aliens (called "angels")? What does god need a space ship for? IMO → Why does god need a spaceship? Religions can start because of a technological clash (= african tribe sees a helicopter for the first time). This still happens and is called cargo religion ♣. Reading bible excerpts or how the mormon religion started, makes one wonder whether Jews don't pray to metal. posted by knn |

Quote: Of course killing non-believers is bad! Yeah, but that's what god (the old testament god) was doing often. Killing those who didn't believe and those who thought they were stronger than him. posted by knn |

i do think that certain aspects of religious belief were to allow people to face their own mortality a belief in an "after life" of any sort is prevalent in most religions and others also beleive in reincarnation both of these thoughts give comfort for those who cannot accept that they may not exist in any form after their life is over posted by the anomaly |
