Forget Adkins (sorry for the mispelling), forget all those other stupid little diets that promise to fit you into that new bathingsuit in 2 hours as long as you stay off the carbs. I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU, PEOPLE, IT DOESN'T WORK! Did you know that you need at least 200 carbs for your brain to FUNCTION, not to mention function well? It's pointless to start pinching carbs, because that's not really going to help you. Diet plans change all the time. For example, a while ago, health doctors were saying that eggs were bad for you. My friend LOVED to eat eggs, but he stayed away from them until his death. And guess what happened right AFTER he died? The same health doctors completely turn around and say, "Oops, sorry, eggs actually ARE good for you!" It always changes because people really don't get enough good information, or the information they get is overrided by newer data. If you've ever dieted sucessfully, then you know how hard it is to continue dieting. What people don't realize is that the word "diet" is misused. Everyone has a diet, is ON a diet. It's just a matter of changing the amount or what you eat that's the issue. Once people get to their desired weight amount, then they'll stop, and then enjoy several peices of cake in celebration, and whoops! They're back to normal. That's what makes diets so hard. You're hungry all the time when you ARE dieting, and then afterwards they just bounce right back to the same weight they were before they dieted. So what's a person to do if they want to loose weight? Here's my advice: If you love to eat, exersize a lot. The average person needs at least 45 minutes a day of exersize. Yeah, it might seem like a pain, but after you start walking or running, you'll notice how beautiful it is outside. It's painful at first, but it's worth it. If you don't like to run, then find a sport that fits for you. For me, it's martial arts. I love the sport, hence I do it a lot. Voula! You're exersizing. But it's not just exersizing. You can exersize all you want, and still be overweight because of what you eat. Try rationing your fats and oils, and definately your portions. People may not realize it, but especially in America, the sizes of platters in restaurants are WAY too big. In fact, you should only eat about 1/4 of what they give you. You can have anything you want as long as you eat less. Or you can ration the fats and oils, an eat lots of fruits and veggies too. There are plenty of different ways to loose weight, just most people would like to take the easy way out, to not exersize at all and eat what they want. It's not going to happen like that. You're just going to have to take a deep breath and do the dreaded. There's one more bit more to the dieting scheme. You have to respect yourself. NO ANOREXIA! It's not worth it, you'll stunt your growth, you'll hurt yourself, you'll always be cold and sleep less, and not only that, you'll probably have to do a year or so (depending on how servere it is) in physical therapy. NOT FUN, my friends. Just accept that you're working on your weight, stop pinching those flabs, and then actually DO work on it. A magic solution isn't going to appear suddenly. No one is going to solve all your problems with a little pill, or by a special carb-free diet. You're just going to have to take some time out of your day and exersize, and eat less. Simple, but effective! Splintey posted by splinterinyourmind |

The same health doctors completely turn around and say, "Oops, sorry, eggs actually ARE good for you!" Exactly, full ACK. I was myself astonished that it turned out that national food health committes are just a bunch of professors that say what the _think_ is good. But it gets worse: Once a stupidity like "Eggs are bad for the cholesterol" is out, it is spreaded for years in publications, although maybe the truth comes out later. Quote: Try rationing your fats and oils Now here is something I wholeheartedly disagree. Rationing fats and oils is the fastest way to gain weight in the long-run. I thought (as most do) at one point, that reducing fat intake must be a good thing, less fat must mean... well... less fat. Then I saw the Film Lorenzo's Oil ♣, a true story about a boy with adrenoleukodystrophy ♣ (ADL) a condition in which long chain fatty acids (in oil) destroy the brain's Myelin. The parents spent years looking for a treatment and one of the things they found out was that if you reduced your body's intake of this oil (which you'd naturally consider a good course of action) the body starts to produce its own. Their solution was to find another oil that didn't do the damage, but that also was sufficien to convince the body not to make the bad stuff. And that's Lorenzo's Oil. myelin.org... posted by Marl64 |

Nah, we are talking about a diet for healthy people here. If you die because of a certain oil or amino acid then of course you shouldn't eat it. The truth is that fresh (= non-rancid) oils can be really healthy. And countries with higher oil/fat intake have thinner people and the Atkins diet is good for your heart health. posted by knn |

This "bad fat" is present in ALL the oils we eat day to day. They found that if you stop eating it, your body will manufacture it's own. So stopping eating it has no effect. "Hey this oil is killing our kid let's stop giving him it." a little later "Hmm, that's strange, even though he's not eating it, the amount in his body is increasing" posted by Marl64 |
