Quote: Locals in the small north-western New South Wales town of Walgett may have seen Ian Thorpe and the Australian women's 4x100 metre relay team win gold on the weekend, but they could not hear anything from Athens.
Walgett residents spent the weekend trying to have their Channel Seven transmitter fixed so they could hear as well as see its Olympic Games coverage. Resident Jack Baker says the problems started during Friday's opening ceremony when Channel Seven pictures were coming through but not the sound. He says after spending the weekend calling Seven Central, which is based in Townsville, it was only yesterday that a technician called to say the problem would be fixed. "He rang me back about seven o'clock last night and said we've located who looks after the service of it and we're working hard to get it back," Mr Baker said. "I don't know what time it came back but this morning when we tried Channel Seven, it was back and working."
