knn: Quote: investing is the best way to get rich. Investing in what? that's the beautiful thing... there are so many things to invest in. You can invest in commodities like coffee or even gold. You could invest in the stock market too. I for one have a thousand dollars in savings bonds with a pretty nice interest rate. You can also become an investor in businesses. You can give a small business money and if it does well you get a cut of their profits. Of course, you have to invest wisely. Quote: You could invest in the stock market too. I perceive this as very unethical. Make money with money without a valuable end product. Sucks. And is one of the reasons of country crashes and why the poor are getting poorer. The next crash is about in 5-10 years, by the way. posted by knn |

think about how it would be if nobody invested in the stock market. Companies wouldn't be able to produce as much and in return our economy would be weaker posted by CustomerDisservice |

Quote: think about how it would be if nobody invested in the stock market. But this applies only to the initial IPO (initial public offering) of the shares. All further trading is just unethical. As I said: Whole countries can be destroyed by this nonsense. The share value of some companies is 100, 200, 300x more than the real value. This makes companies work for the "shareholder value" rather than for real products. Sucks. Moreover it creates monopolies. Moreover it destroys companies, since 1 (manipulated) bad news can drop the value of the shares and the competitor buys you, although your real value stayed the same. posted by knn |

But if you pull out at the right time it can be very rewarding, my parents joined the NRMA (a company here) and as a deal they gave them about 2000 shares in the company, since than those shares have quadrupled! Pretty good considering the shares were free! But the NRMA is a very generically used company here, I don't see them having an financial trouble in the near future, hence we can keep those shares for quite a while, but if a stong competitor comes up, maybe it'd be time to take what we've got and run! posted by hungarian kid |
