As you maybe know, I switch in to God TV pretty often. And what I see is the pathetic state Christianity is in. At least it looks so. GodTV boradcasts worldwide into every country you ever heard of (They said something about bringing the gospel to 212 countries). But what are they airing? 60ies shows, 70ies shows, 80ies shows, 90ies shows and some shows from nowadays. They really have to fill out their program with these old shows. The same televangelists over and over (approx. 10-20). Pathetic if that's the largest religion of earth. Broadcasting from the US, the most Christian country. And some of these televangelists are not even good. Well, GodTV will broadcast it anyway... they have no chance... I am watching a religion imploding in front of my eyes. Just because the televangelists suck doesn't mean Christianity is in a pathetic state. People who are truly Christians don't exactly flaunt their "charity" or "generosity"...otherwise their main objective would still be upon themselves, and not upon doing the work of God. Some people choose to spread the gospel through media...most don't. And plus, I thought you didn't want to reveal your opinion on such subjects, knn...using the word "pathetic" isn't exactly a subtle "hint" on your opinion, is it? posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Quote: Why don't you lay off ragging on Christianity Huh? Where did I do that? I wrote, that it LOOKS like a pathetic state. Quote: And some of these televangelists are not even good OK, that's an opinion. And I stick to that. Some of them are not good. Quote: Just because the televangelists suck doesn't mean Christianity is in a pathetic state. True. So the question remains: Is Christianity in a pathetic state? Quote: In the past few days, I've seen at least 3 threads by you about the 'state of Christianity' What? Where? Quote: I think we all know your opinion on this by now. I don't think so. C'mon people, everyone here is free to post whatever they want. If people wouldn't be different places like this wouldn't exist huh? With that said, I second knn's opinion on how Christianity is declining. It's always the same things over and over again. posted by Echelon |

The Vatican City is country in its own right. The Vatican City is recognised as a seperate country to Italy. Surely this country is the most Christian country in the world? (ie. and NOT the US?) posted by fatpie42 |

Christianity is NOT in a pathetic state. Surprisingly, Christianity is more apparent in countries that are not mostly Christian. A testimony: In Taiwan, the natives of the country (called the Yen Zu Ming) are considered inferior in education and mental abilities than the city people (like Taipei). They live in a mountainous area, and that area is perhaps one of the places where the most idolatry is in the entire world. A missionary from the U.S. that actually came to our church a few days ago went with his wife and the youth fellowship at his church to the Yen Zu Ming to teach English and spread the gospel at the same time. They prepared for a competition of English plays. The children of the high school of the Yen Zu Ming competed nationally against the city of Taipei, which was considered extremely surprising. And guess what, they won. The victory testified to the world that the Yen Zu Ming were just as good as the city people (All men are created equal) and that the youth missionaries, some as young as high school, could change the world with the help of God. A bit off topic. Sorry. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

(ie. and NOT the US?) 1) The vatican city is not a country. The Vatican Country is. They occupy the same space but are legally different entities (I am splitting hairs here). 2) Other than that, I really liked your comment posted by knn |

First of all, welcome back Fatpie...it's been a long time. Let me get some things straight: The Vatican is not a state. It doesn't comply with the attributes or characteristics of a state: it lacks a territory of its own (it's part of Italy), there are no "Vatican Citizens" (everyone has his own passport from another country, the pope himself travels with an Italian passport), he has an army of Swiss guards, and it is not recognized as a nation by the United Nations. posted by Echelon |

I disagree with every point 1) "it lacks a territory of its own (it's part of Italy)" Not really, it's an enclave = surrounded by Italy. 2) "There are no "Vatican Citizens" (everyone has his own passport from another country." Because priests and bishops and popes have no children that could be born there. 3) "he has an army of Swiss guards" They are called Swiss guards and are for the protection of the pope. Actually having an army is a characteristic of a state isn't it? 4) "it is not recognized as a nation by the United Nations" So? It is recognized by many countries. And actually I am not sure. As a country you don't have to be a member of the UN. The Vatican is a "permanent non-member state observer". 5) Vatican has a constitution 6) Italian police cannot enter Vatican city to get a criminal. But actually it doesn't matter. The Vatican is what it is. They fail however in the religious rights category: Freedom of religion posted by knn |
