Black gospel music isn't nearly as bad as white gospel music. At least BGM is "exciting" and the crowd really gets into it. But WGM, holy shit! I was subjected to that crap all through my childhood up to 15. Some of the worst music ever. posted by volonteshiva |

nocturnal_anonymous: volonteshiva: Some of the worst music ever I like some white gospel singers...like...Tim Hughes. He's alright. And Switchfoot is okay too. Hey, I was brainwashed in that arena till I was 16. Back in the day I liked Accapella and Newsboys but then I finally found that the rest of the world sung about real life and not about they interpret their life based upon what they imagine God does or does not do for them. The gospel message no longer interested me. Some of the best music comes from pain and heartache. Gospel music often reflects the xian belief that humans are worthless, sinning, evil creatures that only through God do we even have a chance at being decent. aka songs like "God saved a wretch like me..." etc etc. Beyond that, much of white gospel is just boring and poorly produced. It lacks soul and character. With all this bashing done, I will add that many great artists obviously have gospel roots, but they grown and expand from that. aka, Ray Charles posted by volonteshiva |

Of course. volonteshiva: Gospel music often reflects the xian belief that humans are worthless, sinning, evil creatures that only through God do we even have a chance at being decent. aka songs like "God saved a wretch like me..." etc etc. Uh. Where do you get this from? Most Christians don't believe that humans are worthless, sinning, and evil. I usually don't listen to those kind of songs. I like Tim Hughes's "Consuming Fire" and Switchfoot's "Meant to Live"...but I also like non-Christian songs (well, duh) like "Perfect" by Simple Plan. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Where do you get this from? Most Christians don't believe that humans are worthless, sinning, and evil. It depends on what denomination you are speaking of. Baptist, Methodist, Southern Baptist, Catholic, nearly all xians before the year 1900,etc believe that humans are sinners and fundamentally evil and only through God do they have a chance for salvation and goodness. It says this many a time in the Bible. Now take your Unitarians and other more open xian groups and they are more tolerant and happy groups and you will get the preaching of the goodness humanity can do. And they look for the good in the Bible. The gospel songs I am referring to are more traditional ones. Modern xian artists aren't going to sell many records saying you are an evil sinner. They just skip that and go to jesus' love and the joy of heaven and salvation. posted by volonteshiva |

I guess I must listen to the exact opposite of that kinda stuff, I mean like AC/DC (Highway to Hell, Hell's Bells, lots of songs about sex), Rammstein (lots of songs about murder and sex,) well pretty much anything considered rock or heavy metal I guess! But I do listen to ol' Marley with his constant Lyrics about Zion! I have listened to some Gregorian Chant, it's kinda cool but pretty much all the same! Nothing I wanna get posted by hungarian kid |
