Anybody who likes cockroaches here? About 1.5 years ago I was shocked when I saw what cockroaches can do. I was standing on stairs and tried to kill a cockroach which was also on a stair. And then... I saw... cockroaches can fly... posted by knn |

I cannot stand them. I used to dislike them so much that I couldn't even kill one, just couldn't make myself come close enough to this thing And yes they fly and that's even worse than if they just walk. Good that they only do it if they have no other way to escape a human trying to murder it. They say, cockroaches will survive atom war. They can live without a head for a few days and die only because of lack of food. Insects are among the weirdest things on earth. posted by mymla |

..are amazing, when we are long gone i think the insects will get their chance of becoming dominant. Imagine it like Starship Troopers but without all the humans spoiling it! posted by Crossfade |

When I used to live in the country, there was a full enviroment of animals and insects, espicially cockroaches. One night I went into the kitchen to get a drink with out turning on the light, I grabbed a glass, filled it with water put it to my mouth and felt this tickly feeling on my upper lip. I put the glass down, quickly put on the light and there was this huge fucking cockroach sitting on the lip of the glass. I approached it and it took flight, I went for it and ended up squashing it against a wall. I hate cockroaches, every time I'd go into the bathroom at night or anytime I'd go into the kitchenat night I'd always have to kill one or two and clean any of the glasses on the bench. You think it's fine with them on the ground, easy to squash with your foot then BAM, they take flight and make things complicated. posted by hungarian kid |

What has this pic to do with cockroaches? Here's the story: A cockroach ran into this poor guy's throat and he couldn't get it out, so he took a fork and accidentally swallowed the fork. I am sure one could call it: "The baddest day in my whole f*cking life" [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by knn |

A friend of mine kept one of these beasts as a pet. They say cockroachs only live in "healthy" houses, but that doesn't impress me much. I am kind of used to the variety that I had to confront in childhood, but every time I see a new one... They are just so... alien? posted by mymla |

*A 300-million-year-old cockroach fossil has been found in a mine site in the United States. And it's huge. The cockroach, which lived in the Carboniferous period, 55 million years before dinosaurs, was found in a coal mine in eastern Ohio ... Measuring 9 cm, the fossil cockroach dwarfs the modern American cockroach which averages 4.5 cm in length* How do you like that? Was there a time I wonder when those things were not running around? posted by mymla |

Today I noticed another disgusting quality of them: They flee beneath something (a garbage can, a flowerpot, whatever) and when you lift it: They are gone. Argh! what a disgusting feeling that leaves: "They must be there, somewhere..." [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by knn |
