I have this debate with my friend what it best; Apple or Windows and I just wanted your opinion on the matter. I also put LINUX there because some people use that. Personaly I have never used it posted by Pawnatron |

Macintosh is a pretty stable system, the only downside to it as that it's not as easy to use as Windows. Same happens with Linux. The best thing about Linux is that is free. posted by Echelon |

Windows is easy to use and has the best software support. Linux is really great, but it's totally complicated. It may look simple if you got a pre-configured distribution with a window manager and stuff. But under the hood it's totally complicated. All the shell scripts, configuration files, kernel modules, uncompiled source code and stuff ... you really need to be a total nerd in order to understand it fully. posted by anonymyus |

I remember when the hype against Windows had its peak and everyone shouted "Buy OS/2". I did. After 1 month of being unable to get the CD-ROM drive to work and after I recognized that I need an ADDITIONAL SHAREWARE prog to make the modem work, I never used that thing again. Windows works. End of story. posted by knn |

Macs are good for one thing and one thing only, media editing! So movies, journalism, all that crap! Macs are ideal for that and that only! And maybe watching movies, but come oon, as if Windows don't already have all that! Only difference is Mac does it well, and Windows is just fucking awesome in comparison with everything a mac can't do! Which is about everything I have computers for! posted by hungarian kid |

What media editing is not possible with a windows PC? Haaa I honeslty don't know, I merely know this as a given fact from Computer Officianados I know! I have used Macs for video editing befor, it has a sickening design about it! I prefer Windows, Window Movie Maker does what I need! Macs aren't completely non-user friendly, if you somehow get a PC emulator for them (they exist, I've seen them being used) you can play games and the such! But it's a waste when PCs are so easily attainable... and you can upgrade them! posted by hungarian kid |

knn: Is there anything the Mac can do what a windows PC cannot do? What media editing is not possible with a windows PC? Perhaps a number of years ago, media editing for amateurs was best done/supported on a Mac. But now Adobe has everything in Windows that it has on the Mac. Agent Zero: macs suck Up until OS10 and the G4s and G5s I would 100% agree. But now that MacOS is Unix based, I could really get into a Mac. posted by volonteshiva |

"For musicians there is only 1 choice: Atari". And you know what was the "supah-dupah feature"? Atari had a built-in MIDI interface. Something which every soundcard nowadays has. You see, in the 80ies you could become millionaire very easily with such simple "killer applications" ("killer hardware") posted by knn |
