The closest option for me is Quote: I don't know / Can't decide but my actual answer is far from that. I have a friend who is a DJ, he's supposed to be pretty good, but to me he's a guy that plays records. posted by Marl64 |

i had to go with Tiesto, PVD, Ferry Corsten. would have cast a vote for Johnny Vicious but he isnt listed. i have seen a lot of big names perform and met a couple too. some good stories from those times. it sucks being stuck here in a small east texas town where nobody really listens to any form of electronica. i refuse to DJ at clubs here anymore because all people want to hear is rap. i hate that! i got fed up once and asked this girl why she wanted to hear "bootie music" over what i was playing. she said because they cant dance to it...so i asked her how she dances to bootie music, she said that she bounces to the beat, so i asked why cant she do it to this music. she actually said that she could not find the beat in it! so i told her to tap her foot to the song, she did, congrats you just found the beat...now leave me alone. i still do some smaller parties for friends and such but that's about it. i was featured on my universities tv news once for DJing. good times. been spinning since 97 but have loved electronic music since the 80's. i don't really do much anymore, haven't purchased a record since...i bought "rock your body rock" by ferry corsten and "somebody to love" by boogie pimps waaaay back when. i miss it... posted by allone |

Fuck that sucks! Goto a city, you'll get a fuckload of people who love electronica! Here in Melbourne there's a fuckload of clubs and all are different, Techno, Hiphop, Rock, we've got em all and Im guessing with Americas bigger cities, youd get a bigger variety! No point sticking around in a town, I moved away from my small town cus the city is full of oportunity, a town full of unemployed bums isnt! I see towns and the country as more of a place to relax and unwind, the city is a place for work, opportunity and fun! I know plenty of musicians from my hometown that came to the city and are now playing in clubs making money and making a name for themselves! Don't waste talent! posted by hungarian kid |

I feel your pain, man. My friend used to spin at a dance club where I live and also quit because he wasn't playing enough "urban" music. Which was a joke in itself because he was mixing the Roots, Jurassic 5, Blackaliscous, Pharoah Monch, etc...just not Ja Rule, Master P, or any other hack mainstream hip-hop artist (excluding Kanye West). Considering how much flak he took from the patrons of the club, it's amazing that he stayed there as long as he did. But, hey, a man's gotta eat, right? Anyhow, he kind of like you now as he does the occasional party and club. Too bad. He was really good. posted by GP |

yeah, once i finish school im out of here! its a nice town, just too damn slow for me. im originally from houston (pop about 4.5 million) and people are way more open minded there. also there are a ton more clubs where, if you don't like techno, don't go to that club! there are a million others that you can go to. but i would still like to get further away than that, like, out of the US! i read british clubscene magazines (ha, i made this place here get them in stock!) such as mixmag, and i just love how it seems over in europe people are way more open minded towards this genre of music. the girls are hot and people dress cool. (maybe im stereotyping but whatever) i had a good friend who went to europe for a month...that turned into all summer plus fall semester, he just couldnt leave. hes a lot like me and he loved it here, went everywhere. he said most people hated him because he was american, but once he said he was from texas everyone was like, "whoa, are you a cowboy?" haha, so he purposely spoke with a hick accent! at some club some girls came up to him and told him that its rumored that texans can drink and that if he outdrank them they would pay his tab...after a six pack of beer they were gone and he was still fine. its just sounds cool to me. *sigh* posted by allone |

The DJ scene in Europe is very different than it is in a lot of parts here in the States. I come from a extremely liberal town, so the scene is actually really good. We even have a party in one of the largest parks in the city every spring where DJs come and spin all weekend! My view on the Europe DJ scene is somewhat skewed as I haven't been to all of Europe (just England, Scotland, & Ireland). But what your friend encountered at the clubs is pretty standard, really. A lot of people hate on you because you're American...sucks, but hey, what are you going to do. If they don't want to take the time to get to know you...their loss. It's cool, though, because there also is a large faction that's interested in you because you're American. So, you take the good w/the bad. posted by GP |

...the dj scene is becoming more and more confined to certain places as r&b takes over the fookin world(r&b, what a misnomer that is, that is chuck berry, muddy waters et al to me) To be honest i think dj is dying because they just play the same stuff over and over, 98 seemed to be the golden year for dance, they weren't afraid to play some pretty obscure stuff, now it seems to be big bass and some woman singing about clouds and missing her bloke, bleh! My sister used to dj around that time, she was bloody good and almost landed some gigs at Cream in Liverpool but she met a bloke and she lost interest silly cow! I actually have her Technics 1210's sat in my spare room posted by Crossfade |

thought r&b meant rhythm and blues, i guess it has changed. yeah, most people don't like it here because it isnt on MTV, which for most people is the source of all that is cool. idiots. maybe if electronic music wants to come back in a heavy way they should release some music filled with a lot of derogatory statements, cursing, violence, sex, drugs, money, bling bling, sexist comments about bitches (haha, had to say it like that...thanks ali g) and so on...maybe throw in a couple of "YEAH"s "WHUUT"s "OKAY"s just to be safe. but then again, i have heard some pretty cool remixes of some popular rap songs that people just cant get into. but they did get into that toxic song by ms. spears. hmm... maybe tiesto should focus on remixing tupac, biggie, puff daddy/p diddy...whatever his name is now. NO NO NO! god i hate myself for even thinking that. posted by allone |
