 No one likes tax, but ultimately we have to pay for public services some how. I for one am sick to death of stealth taxation and guilt taxation. Your average Joe works his due. He pays a fat portion of his wage in tax, national insurance, health care contributions etc. He buys his weekly shopping and pays additional tax. He Puts some in the bank, and pays tax on any interest. He then pays local and state taxes, water rates or whatever. Car Tax, Road Tax, it never stops 
It seems every time we get money we're taxed on it, every time we spend money we're taxed on it and if we die, they claim death taxes. Wouldn't it be simplier just to pay once. Sure it would be a lot, but it would be done with. No more nibbling away at what we have left. I don't know the exact level it would require to attain this, but it has to be better than the mess we have now. posted by Marl64 |

Stealth taxes are a sonofabitch, one of the worst is petrol, AGAIN it goes up and if you pay what is approaching 90p/ltr 70p goes to the govornment! THAT IS REDICULOUS! Rip-off britain at it's best. posted by crossfade |

Oh, I thought fuel was a "guilt tax" They tax you to protect the environment. Like Fags and Booze, they tax you "to protect your health" And why are Airline companies exempt from fuel tax? posted by Marl64 |

 One thing is the height of the taxes, the other one is the mode of paying (filling out forms  ), another one is how harsh the government is.
EACH AND EVERY of these 3 things are solved with my solution: Every week approx 1%-2% of what is on your bank account gets transfered to the country. Since usually you spend your money pretty fast within a month you hardly ever get taxed high sums. Everything finished: No paperwork, country gets all the money needed, even criminals are taxed, illicit workers, and saving money (= what lets economies crash) is finally punished. posted by knn |

Recent uproar over the death of a child due to obesity would immediately raise the tax on food. It's an established tradition in Britain that the Chancellor raises duty and fags and booze, but always manages to make an exception of his favourite tipple. Let me also add that if you finally decide to really tax dangerous goods, then the tax would be paid by the producer of course (and finally by the end consumer by the increased price). This is a much better system than going around and having everybody pay taxes. posted by knn |

 I would love to know where all the money they take off us in car tax is going cause i'll be damned if it's going on the roads like they say...i'm afraid to say that Brits are so used to being taxed to death we just roll over and take it cause there's sod all we can do about it. posted by Crossfade |

He Just got sick to death of it all, said "Fuck it" and that's that. Sold his house, Dumped his stuff in storage and book a plane ticket - one way.

Why Malta? not something people pick much. Nothing wrong with the choice, in fact it'd be a great place to live if you can get past their strict immigration laws. Been there a few times on holiday, great people, fantastic history and it's warm all the time
Seriously, it's a very mellow country and i love that, i'm not a hustle bustle person so i love the place. Yes it has it's problems with silly polution laws and it can be a nightmare to find a place to live on a small island but it more than makes up for it with the vibe...oh and the women are stunning

And polite, OMG, it's like Britain used to be. I was on a bus once (the buses - they're amazing, it's like having time machine ) anyway there was this gang of "youfs" laughing and joking on the bus - it was quite full.
A woman got on but there were no seats. All the teen boys stood up to let her sit down. 
Nice place. Not that popular with Germans though - wonder why?

yes the busses are cool, right out of the 50's and the mostly all bright yellow and chrome I think the german luftwaffe are annoyed at Malta because they held the island against them with only three fighter planes
