»What is your personal favourite book?«

Quote:
Anybody has a favourite book by Stephen King? Or the one that made the most striking impression?

My favourites are the Running Man (1982) and The Night Shift Short story Collection which included Children of the Corn, The Stand,The Mangler,Trucks and others.

Oh, and favourite short story The Withered Arm by Thomas Hardy its sort of a 19th century ghost story. Very Happy

I like "Animal Farm" by Orwell more than 1984.

Me too, Animal Farm is a great book Very Happy ! But I'm kind of sick of it now, because I had to read it for class and I had to keep going back to reread certain pages to answer questions or write an essay...if you know what I mean... Not again

I have that problem

with Captain Correlli's Mandolin. I studied it for A Level and it took all the magic out of it. Don't you dare watch the movie - never have I seen such a tragedy, such a cinematic abortion!

a very nice story

and it just so happens that it is online!

Wow. What a story. First published in 1909. Hard to believe, isn't it? I mean, a lot of things we know now were forseen by this or that writer when it seemed yet impossible.

I like Stephen King very much. I haven't read too much I'm afriad. The book that made the most impression so far was "It"

Few books ever impressed me so much. Maybe that has something to do with Ronald McDonald turning out so evil... But I've read it once and never dared to read again.

The Last Man

I got this book a few months ago for really cheap (US $3.99, and it's hardcover too) and just started reading it. Anyone read this book before? Is it really bad, that's why it's so cheap? White laugh

sci fi again

The topic of this thread should be which is your favourite novel right? Otherwise I think I like the Feynman Lectures.

I wonder why no one has mentioned Umberto Eco's 'Name of the Rose' here? Rather dragging pace, but very good novel. Catch-22 is also quite good, so is Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club. 1984 is outstanding.

I'm a rabid sci fi fan, and there are too many to mention... most of the novels by Michael Crichton, the best could be Sphere or The Lost World or perhaps Prey. Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey and the rest. The Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov.. but I read all those quite a while ago, so can't really call those adult reading. Frank Herbert's Dune. Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

Frederick Forsythe wrote some good novels too.. Odessa File, The Day of the Jackal.. but can't properly classify those adult reading either.
