I am going to go and check this out for sure but I am sure that a few years ago they proved the shroud of Turrin (which was supposed to be the burial cloth that Jesus' body was wrapped in after death) was not Jesus' burial cloth. I seem to remember carbon dating proving that it was from a time several hundred years after crucifiction. Now to check out the net to see if I can find the information I am sure I have heard about - unless it was an elaborate dream... Surfing...wish me luck posted by Twilight2dawn |

..proved to not be the shroud of christ but they were not sure if it was real or not, the documentary i saw had experts trying to recreate the shroud using various ingredients like egg whites and herbs to get the 'stain' right. they succeded but also claimed it might actually be the image of a dead man but they don't know who. posted by Crossfade |

Quote: they proved the shroud of Turin (which was supposed to be the burial cloth that Jesus' body was wrapped in after death) was not Jesus' burial cloth. No, it's still open. They made several mistakes, or better: They didn't take some facts into considerations. Some environmental and some (newly discovered) chemical reactions that made the shroud testify a much younger date than 2000 years. posted by knn |

The image is also still a mystery. The "Shroud Debunker" Dr.Nick Allen (from the university of South Africa) claims he can reproduce the image. It's highly interesting what he did. He took some chemical that were available centuries ago and makes a photograph of a Jesus statue and produces strikingly similar looking results. He claims that Leonardo DaVinci fabricated the Shroud Of Turin and that's it's Leonardo's face. DaVinci was non-religious himself, so it would have been an extra fun to be worshipped by Christians. Please also note that the painting technique of Da Vinci is still a mystery: There are no brush strokes. Please note however that some aspects can not be explained by mere photography. It seems that an X-Ray image has been made of the body. I made 2 animated gifs to show that indeed the bone structure is shown partly. You can see it best when you compare the darker places of human bone structure (= the gaps and caves between bones) [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by knn |

gina926402: why is there so much arguments about the turin shroud, its either christs face on the cloth or it ain't. - Why is there so much argument about evolution? Either life evolved or it didn't. - Why is there so much argument about god? Either god exists or he doesn't. - Why is there so much argument about abortion? Either it's morally justifiable or it's not. There is so much argument because people have opinions. Welcome to in-my-opinion! If you don't want to hear argument about people's opinions, why the hell are you posting on a site called in-my-opinion? gina926402: i believe it is the face of christ, and i am among many millions of people who believe so. And you're apparently among many millions of Christians who can't construct a logical argument. "Lots of other people believe this too, so there, nyah nyah nyah." posted by Tiefling |

And the guns fell silent...goodbye gina, thanks for visiting. In 2002 the shroud was "Restored". All thirty of the patches that were sewn into the cloth in 1534 by the Clare nuns to repair the damage caused by the 1532 fire were removed. It looks like they gave it a damn good wash as well. The detail in the shroud is now very pale and hard to see compared to how it was for the last 470 years. The patches were removed to gain access to the burn holes underneath, and the burned edges were removed in preparation for re-patching. I can't believe that any Archeologist would undertake such destructive work...but then again, they got to see some holes...
