Register first to vote here. Al Gore had 540'000 more votes than Bush. But the election system in the US made Bush the president. Should that be changed? posted by knn |

totally. Isn't that what democracy is all about? Words of Wisdom from Lincoln: Quote: government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Al Gore probably wouldn't have made a wonderful president , but maybe better than the one we have now... posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Quote: even if Bush is stupid I don't know if that puts it correctly. Many would consider Bush not as stupid but as a dangerous fanatic who could lead the world to World War 3 and to increased terrorism. Since you nocturnal_anonymous live in the US it's probably difficult to explain the feelings toward Bush outside of the US. Except for a few countries the majority of the world population thinks that Bush is one of the worst US presidents ever. posted by knn |

Quote: Should the US voting system be changed for future elections? The electoral stems from the time where the average US citizen didn't know who was a presidential candidate. Just wanted to add that. This is maybe an additional information you might want before you vote. posted by knn |

Quote: I don't know if that puts it correctly. Well...some people might think he is a dangerous fanatic, but I still think he doesn't have much brains. Quote: Since you nocturnal_anonymous live in the US it's probably difficult to explain the feelings toward Bush outside of the US. I know enough of what the world thinks of Bush from here alone. I think I kind of get the idea from the poll "Do you like Bush?"... Quote: Except for a few countries the majority of the world population thinks that Bush is one of the worst US presidents ever. Maybe it may seem like it now...I just think he is really stupid...but we never know, the war may be for the greater good...though it seems highly unlikely. But Lincoln was not very popular after his decision of the Civil War either... But I say again. The US voting system should be changed. Popular vote should prevail over electoral votes. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

I was watching Laura Bush (wife of US president Bush) today at Larry King Live and she said that she OF COURSE wants to keep the non-popular (= electoral) system, because it forces the president to visit each state during his election promotion tour. And I went ... It's VICE VERSA, dear Laura. Because NOW you don't have to visit US states that you can not get a majority in. In other words: The popular vote FORCES you to visit each state, because EACH voter counts, whereas now you can skip deep-left states as a rightie and skip deep-right states as a leftie (because you won't get a majority there anyway). Moreover: The electoral vote is a remnant of the times where the presidential candidates were pretty unknown to US Americans, but the local electorates were known. Moreover: The electoral collage makes it IMPOSSIBLE for any other but Dem or Rep party to win. Sucks. posted by knn |
