It is rather humorous... All new trek series got/get better/best from season 4 on including Enterprise. They just fucked up so bad in 1-3 that the fans weren't willing to stick around for the normal uptrend...

They do seem to be raising some pretty decent $$ from donators for season 5 to happen...

The real issue is to get Rick Berman AWAY from Star Trek. He is the reason for it's decline. He actually thought Star Trek Nemesis was a good movie and didn't understand why they didn't get many movie goers. They need to take a break from Trek for a year or two and then give the reigns to someone else.

On our poll

From 15 voters only 2 say that Enterprise (with Archer) is OK. While 9 say it sucks.

Pretty bad.

Where is the option for "I can't stand anything related to Star Trek"?

My ex-girlfriend couldn't get me interested in Star Trek back in the day, and she was even bribing me with sexual favors. I doubt you could do better. Very Happy

I will stimulate your mind. Getting to you through sex wouldn't do much because you would be focused on the sex. You would just watch the show to get her to shut up but wouldn't really pay attention. White laugh

Really you need to be shown a number of widely-held, agreed upon, GOOD episodes of TNG, DS9 and Voyager. If you don't like the cream of the crop out of some 546 episodes btw those 3 shows, then you just plain don't like Trek and the issue is settled.

I think it's the theme song. I hear it and I just start laughing.

You mean all these different series have a theme song that makes you laugh?

Something like that. Or something equally trivial.

I dunno, my brain just shuts down the second I see Star Trek. If I'm being forced to watch it, I basically try to go to my secret cave to find my power animal.

I hate Captain Kathryn Janeway

I hate Janeway
I love TNG, DS9, and I even quite like a few of the characters in Enterprise. But I HATE Voyager. Why? One simple reason - Janeway. I cant stand her. She makes me want to puke. She has only two personas in the entire 7-year series and she constantly alternates between them, and they are both nauseating. First, vomit-inducing Compassion-face in which she puts on this phony 'caring' face and talks in a 'caring' gentle whisper. Two, tough-chick-face in which she puts on a hard-chick scowl and speaks in a deeper hard-chick voice that is not in the slightest bit believable. God she nauseates me. The same thing happened with Maggie Thatcher. The one time the dumbasses put a woman at the helm and she totally ruins everything. Unlike Kirk, Picard, Sisko and even Archer, Janeway has no charisma at all. Yuck. But shes not the only one, this has got to be the only Star Trek series in which no matter how hard I tried I could never develop any attachment to the characters. They're all boring. Only Paris has any appeal and even then not much. I watched the first 3 seasons hoping I would grow to like this garbage and finally gave up. Years later I finally came back and decided to give the final season a try in the hope that the characters might have developed over the years. No. The same old nauseating Janeway, same old boring episodes, spewing over with self-righteousness and endless lectures about human 'morality'. And this series is the most mushy, sentimental crap of all the Star Trek series. There is barely an episode that is not cringe-inducing in its emotional mushyness. The only moments in the entire seventh series that were worth watching was the 'Q2' episode and that was only because Q was in it (and they even turned that into a morality play), and the very end of 'Renaissance Man' when the Doctor tells Harry that his saxophone playing sounded like a wounded Targ. Good riddance Voyager, and especially good riddance Janeway.

I can accept that this critique exists. But I do not agree with it.

I think Janeway did progress in character development over the years. She went from seeing the crew as a crew to seeing them as a family. She is pretty much the most technically intelligent captain out of 5 captains.

You really can't judge any of the trek series based solely on the first 3 seasons. An odd pattern, but the first 3 seasons of TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise really weren't that good at all. Seasons 4-7 in all are generally rather good as I have said in this thread before.

Just as someone who as seen all episodes of TNG, DS9 and Voyager many times, I don't agree with Janeway hating.

I believe the the best was the book titled , " Mirror, Mirror" If you read the book you will find it every interesting and should have made a movie of it. They did a show similar where they are the reverse of good.

MindSlave Votes for Kirk

I cast only one vote, indicating that the original series ruled. I grew up watching reruns of the original Star Trek with my father, and it was one of the few things I could bribe him with to get him to spend quality time with me. It just has a mythic quality that makes me think no one has done it like Roddenberry since those first three incredible seasons. When I thought of Kirk, I always associated him with my grandfather, a career army officer whom I barely knew since he died when I was very young. Like Kirk, he was a womanizing scoundrel, but he apparently had a certain amount of intelligence and charisma that made the men he commanded appreciate him. And I have to say that I think William Shatner is an amazing actor despite all the badmouthing he takes in the press; for proof of his abilities out of character as Kirk, just check him out in the Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," in which he portrays a delusional man (or is he?) on an airplane.

I also thought the original series had a human element that all subsequent series lacked due to the emphasis on special effects. The Klingons were just surly men in funny beards, but they were still menacing enough to be scary, rather than just bizarre thugs with lobsters on their foreheads as in Star Trek:The Next Generation . Favorite episode in retrospect is "Space Seed" from the very first season, the first appearance of Captain Kirk's nemesis Khan Noonian Singh. The movie »Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan« was also by far the best Star Trek movie and really the only one worth watching. Khan is one of the great villains of popular culture and he use to really scare me as a kid.

I'm in the process of buying all the original Star Trek series on DVD, but I only have Season One so far. Luckily, though "Space Seed" is on this set. Yes, oh yes.. keep going
