 All prayer and mass assemblies in school meant for me was that people passed out in the assembly hall. There were too many people to fit seats in and we'd all be forced to stand and sing hymns and say the Lord's prayer. Do you know why no one got shot in my school? Guns are illegal in my country. Do you know why no one got pregnant? Because we have sex education classes. I'd much rather listen to Marilyn Mason than the mushy stuff they played after it. If you listen to the music on that album by Marilyn Manson "Holy Wood" you will find that his songs are AGAINST gun-culture and FOR care and sympathy for those who turn to suicide. The straw that broke the camel's back was that comic about what homosexuals should do. It bunched drug problems with homosexuality, as if there weren't even MORE drugs in clubs for heterosexuals! In case you didn't know, heterosexuals get AIDS too. Blaming problems in your country on how much prayer you FORCE upon your schoolchildren is rubbish. If they are so worried they should just get their children to pray at home and in Church voluntarily - or isn't that enough? posted by fatpie42 |

..do more damage than good, such sweeping generalisations i don't think i've ever seen before! the homosexuality comic was filth, it tried to be clever by saying 'your gay but if you accept god, it will all go away because your sexuality is caused by a lack or a father figure' WTF? Um... another reason why no one got pregnant in my school is because I was in an all-boys school *blushes* While there was an all-girls school across the road I doubt I'd have heard about girls getting pregnant. All my friends there were reasonably sensible. posted by fatpie42 |

Please note that there _IS_ some power in a command like "Admit you are a sinner" or in a statement like "God loves YOU, too, no matter what you have done" (this is the sentence that got George W. Bush on his track to the presidency). The question is just, why one has to conclude that the bible is correct. The power of such statements may lie somewhere else, while the bible may be totally wrong. posted by knn |

I was worried that you weren't simply close to these people geographically, but that you might actually be one of them. I'm glad you recognise this stuff for the filth it is just as we do.
