Some time ago I came across the news that some movies are being made for the HDTV market (Terminator and a few others) - alright unless you live in a technology black spot like the UK. So given the lack of opportunity to enjoy such things, I though nothing more about it. A couple of days ago, I came across a sample for download, it wasn't big so I gave it a look. We're not talking about and upscaled DVD image, it's remade from the source material. Jeez! As it was a film I have on DVD - albeit the US version, I thought it might be worth comparing. So I capped the same frame from each one - using the same software and settings and stuck them together for comparison. Note: The DVD I have is widescreen and the sample fullscreen, and the final picture had to lose a little (thanks to JPeg) - for upload here, but you get idea. Oh and if your browser scales the image, you might want to look at it full size (1923 X 1470) [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by Marl64 |

But HDTV is the choice of the rich, at the moment these tv's cost an arm and a leg and there are hardly any hdtv transmissions(outside of london anyway) as with everything the uk will get it years down the line...just before the new standard comes to replace it posted by Crossfade |

The sharpness/details of HDTV is soo good that you'd also need a higher refreshing rate to compensate. 25 pics/s will sometimes be not enough. I saw this on an exhibition. As you know from my site I am interesting in these video/TV advancements. You may have recognized from movies you downloaded from the internet how disturbing a low frame rate may be (12 frames per second or so). So I hope HDTV will not be too disturbing. posted by knn |

knn: Is this the IMAX version? It's the HDTV Version - The 720i One (ie not as high as the Matrix Sample I posted first). I don't know if it's also known as the Imax version, in fact I haven't seen "official" mention of it at all. knn: It means that you have a Virtualdub version that can open wmv9 files And MPeg2 and OGGs - But more importantly it can handle the higher resolution - most packages max out at DVD res. knn: Quote: I didn't get it to watch Why? What's the reason? You have to read to the end of the sentence I was pointing out that you get better caps from this version. Seriously though, I do intend to watch it, but have to do so on my lowly 19" Monitor. My TV is good, it can handle higher res than most, but unfortunately because it's sold in Britian it has stupid Pal inputs - A digital TV with no Digital Inputs, what's that all about? - and so the Nice High Res from the PC (It'll do 1024x768 TV out) is downsampled to PAL and upsampled once it gets into the TV I'd rig a bypass but know sod all about TV's posted by Marl64 |
