my computer teacher loves scheme because he said that in order to write functions like we do now in another computer language, we would have to have learned like 50 other terms, when in SCheme it's basically the same term used over again in different variations (i.e. "define" "define-struct" "string" "string-append" etc.) posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

What kind of help do you want? Do you want in idea how to approach the problem? Help with learning the language? Or are you just looking for someone to do your homework for you? posted by Marl64 |

Do you want in idea how to approach the problem? Help with learning the language? Or are you just looking for someone to do your homework for you? Well...considering that I've already submitted the assignment...I guess I don't really need anything anymore. But I'll ask if I need help, since all you here are supposedly geniuses, right? Quote: 50 function terms? Not true! Ok, ok, maybe not fifty, he was probably just using a hyperbole. But he meant something like that. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

knn: Echelon: And they say that it is useful in programming applications in robotics. Hmm, what programming language isn't? Some are more useful than others. Scheme is a very simple programming language. It can show you how more complex procedures like FOR, UNTIL, and REPEAT that are already defined in other languages work. You can see that a REPEAT cycle is just a bunch of conditionals. It may help you understand programming but I would find it a bit stupid to try and write complex applications in it. posted by Echelon |

We're only learning it for the first semester, next semester we're learning Java. PLus the teacher told us that at the end of the year the most complex thing that we'll be able to do is program a really stupid game. So encouraging. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Quote: I'm pretty sure that was the intent. No, the intent is to make the teacher feel superior. Because if he started with java, php or whatever he may run into a pupil who shows him up. Java is also a thing of the past (who the heck programs in Java?), but better than Scheme. Quote: Plus the teacher told us that at the end of the year the most complex thing that we'll be able to do is program a really stupid game. So encouraging. Then ask him to teach you Flash. That is highly usable and a thing of the future. posted by knn |

I also learned Scheme the first semester and Java the second. Both of them suck big time and I didn't learn shit about Java and still managed to pass posted by Echelon |

Quote: No, the intent is to make the teacher feel superior. Ha, you sure have a strong opinion of someone you've never met, seen, or heard of before. Let me rephrase my statement, since you stated your's so confidently WITHOUT PROOF Quote: I didn't learn shit about Java and still managed to pass I'm not looking for just to pass...I'm trying to get the highest grade I can...possible one of the top in the class *crosses fingers* But I don't know if that will be possible, being the only freshman girl in the class, and some people are taking other classes like digital art and more advanced stuff along with this...so obviously they'll get a high grade... posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Quote: Ha, you sure have a strong opinion of someone you've never met, seen, or heard of before. Well, he's a teacher. This is already suspicious: Coming back to the place of the sins of his youth, to feel superior by having pupils (and let them solve stupid tasks like slaves)... I read a statistic once that those who become teachers are the drop-outs of society "Hmm, what shall I do? I have absolutely no clue. I am not able to do anything. Wait. I become a TEACHER!" posted by knn |

Haha Now really, teachers aren't all that bad...and besides, my comp. sci. teacher is cool, so don't talk crap about him. Teachers are NOT the dropouts of society...if they were, they wouldn't be able to teach us and educate us. That quote that Marl gave was funny though. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |
