Japanese police have found the bodies of nine people who apparently committed suicide after meeting via special suicide sites on the internet.
A police spokesman said seven young people were found in a van in the Saitama mountains to the west of Tokyo. Minutes later, two women were found dead in a car south of Tokyo, in another apparent suicide pact. Japan has recently seen a wave of internet-linked suicides, as people seek companions to die with. More than 34,000 Japanese took their own lives in 2003, according to the National Police Agency - an increase of more than 7% from the previous year. They met thru inernet. I tried to find sites wich help you to commit suicide (not too hard though) This one actually tries to make you think twice before doing anything People often turn to suicide because they are seeking relief from pain. Remember that relief is a feeling. And you have to be alive to feel it. You will not feel the relief you so desperately seek, if you are dead. This one doesn't. I never even thought about committing suicide. The very idea of taking _my_ life myself is so weird... Not to all those Japanese. Why is it so? Because they are lonely? i remember seeing a documentary about these suicide sites...pretty disturbing given that they take a typical forum style but with topics like "how to cut your wrists" the documentary also showed the messages relayed between a boy who took loads of drugs and overdosed live online with other people watching via the webcam...no one phoned the police because they were all urging him to take more drugs and so didn't want to get into trouble...apparently some of them knew his phone number but didn't even call his house...his mother and sister were in the next room oblivious to what was going on while people were watching their loved one die and do nothing about it crazy world posted by the anomaly |

I remember watching that documentary too, i got the impression the people watching the kid die thought it was just a scam and he was fooling around, when some of them realised it was for real they tried his phone but it was too late. I think these people just need to talk to someone as shown by the woman who was chatting with the young guy who wanted to kill himself in the show. She was a bad case but tried to help him just by talking and understanding. A lot of this is down to deperession which is very common these days. posted by Crossfade |

I think I watched that or a similar documentry on suicide sites also, but the one guy's family were blaming the other internet users for not taking the person seriously enough when he was asking them to call the paramedics in case he died as a cry for help and as no one did anything about he didn't make it. So who do you point the finger at the internet site, the other users or the person who is commiting suicide? posted by zesja |

I'm agree with you though Anomaly, i have been diagnosed with depression a fair few years ago but i know i've had it all my life. I never felt like topping myself but god damn there have beed days where i think whats the fucking point, i'm tired and can hardly move, you just grit your teeth and push through it. I think a lot of people once they get given this tag of 'depressed' feel even worse like it's some stigma and think suicide is the only answer. posted by Crossfade |

a mate of mine suffered from very severe depression after an accident left him house bound for 6 months the doctors told him that it often happens because of the fact that alot of the social interaction gets cut off...not being able to see your friends etc he also said that once he was told he had clinical depression that people did seem to change their attitudes around him... the biggesyt change being that nobody laughed and joked with him as they thought with him being depressed that he wouldnt appreciate it...quite the opposite was true posted by the anomaly |

People have a perception of you that doesnt always match who you are, they talk to the'illness' rather than just talk to a person. These websites can be good for people but i guess most are quite yound and just being soft shandys, all they are feeling is doubt and teenage angst, that's not suicide material ffs! These sites can help kids who are getting bullied or have poor home lives but i think a lot of kids have a bad day and they go "oh god, i'm depressed, theres something wrong with me!" which is crap, get some backbone you fools, work in a ship yard now! posted by Crossfade |

You will not feel the relief you so desperately seek, if you are dead. The problem is that the depression comes back next life, thus suicide won't help really. the anomaly: is it just me or are thing worse once they have a name

Once a person are diagnosed with this "disorder", they start taking it more seriously than before, and then they start thinking about other crazy stuff...and then they kill themselves and die. Stupid doctors, always have to have a name for everything Quote: i was so depressed i took a knife and tried to cut my wrists but then after i touched the knife to my hand i stopped myself by thinking about what my friends and family would think...it was sad to think about. Glad you stopped there. I've subtly touched on the thought of suicide before when I was undergoing a lot of...things..., but I stopped really fast because of the same reason as Zero...my family doesn't deserve to take on the pain that I tried to leave behind. But I have thought about breaking a bone or something before...haha I thought, "If I broke my arm tomorrow, then I won't have to take the test, do hw, blablabla" or "If I broke my leg today, then I won't have to run the mile, people could run errands for me, blablabla" sounds good doesn't it? posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Quote: Just think of Bush: His actions killed thousands of people, and yet he carries on! Here it says that you commit suicide because you cannot cope with your pain. Obviously, he doesn't feel any pain from what he does. Quote: Suicide is not chosen; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain.”
That’s all it’s about. You are not a bad person, or crazy, or weak, or flawed, because you feel suicidal. It doesn’t even mean that you really want to die - it only means that you have more pain than you can cope with right now. If I start piling weights on your shoulders, you will eventually collapse if I add enough weights... no matter how much you want to remain standing. Willpower has nothing to do with it. Of course you would cheer yourself up, if you could Though I don't agree that "suicide is not chosen". Sure it is! Would be kind of funny though if any of the mighty Presidents would commit suicide on the gounds of not being able to cope with the remorse and pain of what they've done... Quote: people watching the kid die thought it was just a scam and he was fooling around, when some of them realised it was for real they tried his phone but it was too late This is more about why do people watch such things (like executions, killing, accident reports, suicides). I bet those who phoned just wanted to have an excuse. The kid wanted to die and they wanted to see it. posted by mymla |
