No wonder so many think (70% non-USAnians) that it's a good thing (9/11) that the US now knows how it is to be the target itself on home soil.

yup and when we take the initiative to do something about it so it won't happen on any soil around the world, we get flak for it...

Osama might have the same reaction. All he was doing was taking revenge on Western society for all its attacks on the muslim peoples of the middle east and he gets all this flak. How come?

i must admit i'm unknowledgable about most of the palestine vs israel conflict which is what i'm guessing you are refering to, also Osama was upset that we were stationed in Saudia Arabia during the 1st gulf war right? who were we attacking there? no one

Offtopic as offtopic can be off

Not really. We're comparing Osama and Bush in order to see whether America is justified in mass killings in other countries. This is definitely part of the discussion of whether Bush deserves his second term.

Still offtopic

We're comparing Osama and Bush

Yup, offtopic. Start a new thread or post at IMO → What is the difference between war, terrorism, assassinations? or at IMO → Comparison George W. Bush and Hitler or at IMO → Osama bin Laden comes out from under his rock

Re: Still offtopic

Look, YOU start a new thread about why comparing Osama and Bush is offtopic in this thread. My conversation seemed perfectly in keeping with the current discussion.

I don't support Bush, but is glad he got re-elected

I think that it would have bin unfair to Kerry and the Democrats if it was on them to pull america out of its current shithole. Although i dislike Bush, and some of his backward policies, i think its right that the burden should be on him to rebuild America's Infastructure and public relations since it was him that made it go to an almost(if not) all time low in the history of America(statistically)

Extensive new statistics: USA is seen as incompetent and bad

knn:
As a result, respect for the United States and for our president has deteriorated around the world. Bush is ridiculed as the “Toxic Texan.” Even among our allies, most people now regard America as an unfriendly and belligerent power.

Newest polls: The positive attitude is still declining. But probably what's more interesting: The trust towards the US is so low that the Europe wants to be more independent of the US. Bush has started the separation: The US will feel it in the decades to come...
At least half the people in countries other than the U.S. say as a result of the war in Iraq they have less confidence that the United States is trustworthy.
...
In the United States, people overwhelmingly believe the war in Iraq showed the American military to be stronger than they expected. But that view is not widely shared elsewhere – majorities in Germany (61%), Turkey (56%) and France (53%) say that the war in Iraq showed the U.S. to be weaker than they expected.
...
Majorities in six of the nine countries surveyed do not believe that the U.S.-led war on terrorism is a sincere effort to reduce international terrorism. And even in Russia and Great Britain, where there is strong support for the fight against terrorism, many people are skeptical of U.S. motives.
...
Majorities in every country surveyed except the U.S. have an unfavorable opinion of President Bush, with negative ratings ranging from 57% in Great Britain (with 39% favorable) to 85% negative in both France and Germany. Six-in-ten have an unfavorable view of Bush in Russia, and two-thirds (67%) feel this way in Turkey. Feelings about Bush are nearly unanimously negative in Jordan (96% unfavorable) and Morocco (90%), and are nearly as low in Pakistan (67% unfavorably, 7% favorable, 25% no opinion).

You should read the whole poll since it has many more stats and some value changes over time.

These extensive poll shows also how the world view differs from US self-view.
