A maximum error of 2.8% is not the opposite of reality.

Moreover polls show the situation before the final election.
In other words: The opinion might still change in the booth.

a poll says party x will win...party y actually wins

i fail to see the validity or accuracy of the poll in this context

A poll NEVER says that. A poll states the % and the error margin.

And strictly speaking no party "wins". They simply get the % of elected politicians.
