While browsing for some more philosophy stuff to dissect, I came across this site, users.aristotle.net.... It's a very practical site on the subject of the meaning of life. Rather than tackle the issue directly with philosophical mumbo-jumbo, it asks you why it is that you're searching for the meaning of life. Pretty good approach. posted by Tiefling |

The only problem with that option is that in expecting criticism, they flatly refused to provide the aforepromised answer. (My new word for the day: aforepromised) posted by Marl64 |

Interesting. I followed the users.aristotle.net... link, and found there a very good description of the perennial philosophy. Go figure. The site is quite brilliant. My only complaint about it would be that it takes away the Mystery of the Mystery... You can explain the perennial philosophy all you want - in fact, I try to do it a lot here and on the Matrix forum - but the average person won't accept it baldly, especially not if his own belief structure is built on the myths and legends of the age rather than the philosophy that is encoded within them. The point of the myths created by the ancient esoteric schools was to encode this philosophy so that anyone could get something out of it. The masses got tales of ethics and morals, and the initiated got the philosophical truths hidden within. The website above does the job of explaining the philosophia perennis, but leaves out the myth, which actually takes away some of the magic of the Mystery. The myth was important to initiates, because it helped them to experience the Mystery of the perennial philosophy for themselves. In short, I like the website, and what it has to offer, but I caution the reader not to try to understand it, but rather to try to experience it. It's the only way to truly Know. posted by annaerullo |

Well I've been reading a few philosophy books and with all the infomation I compiled I realised it was so blatantly pointing at one thing. The meaning of life is to erect a huge statue in the image of Hungarian Kid and worship him for eternity and give him lots of cool stuff like that sombrero you bought at the festival last weekend when O'Riley spilt his milkshake all over Sarahs new Brunker white shoes and she said she was never gonna eat ham steak again. posted by hungarian kid |

Isn't the perennial gland the one where Descartes claimed the incorporeal mind linked to the corporeal body? posted by fatpie42 |

Alternatively, another site claims that the meaning of life is aberdonian.com.... I'm sure it's pretty easy to poke holes in his thesis, but I'm fond of that site too. posted by Tiefling |

Just to experience probably. God can't have angels guiding people when they themselves havn't experienced what the people have. posted by hungarian kid |

If the meaning of life is to experience, then one should experience the evil as well as the good --- one should steal, murder, and kill, intermingled with feeding the hungry and eating ice cream. I have a feeling this discussion's going to get moved to the religious forum if knn gets wind of it, posted by Tiefling |

Well some people experience the good stuff, others the bad. Some who experience one thing cant experience an other, hence comes gods created variables to deter outcomes. Poverty, sickness, abuse etc. posted by hungarian kid |
