»Would God forgive you?«

Would god forgive any sin no matter how bad if you showed true remorse or no matter how sorry you were if you took a life it's tough and enjoy your new sun tan in hell?

Can we expect to see Hitler sat in heaven if he showed real remorse at what he did and all the orders he gave or is his crime against life unforgivable even to God?

Depends

Does that question go out to Christians?

If so, the inevitable response is... Anybody can be forgiven, as long as they ask Jesus to forgive their sins. And not just in a "oops, sorry J man," way, either.

If not... then who are you asking? Not every religion believes in sin.

Shall we..

..go under the asumption there is only one god and even though the many religions differ in their interpretation surely god cant forgive one person in one religion and then condem another who commited the same crime because his belief is different?

Rephrasing

Let me rephrase my question then. Which rule book are you using --- the Bible? the Koran?

Why would it matter...

...when i'm trying to say in this hypothetical question if there was only 'one' god and it was only the religions that differ would god forgive you? would god forgive you depending on your faith and the teachings of it?

In your opinion, what would a god do differently in the koran than the bible?

In that case

Then I argue that god doesn't care one whit about what we call "sin." I also argue that there is no heaven and hell, and that this "one god" is not omnipotent, omniscient, or omnipresent.

See, you have to choose the context of a religion, because humans only define or approach god through religion. There is no way to determine god's opinion on sin outside the context of a particular religion, because it is through religion that god's attitude toward human behavior is defined. Without religion, god is simply a collection of abstract characteristics.

Unless you're assuming a "core" set of characteristics and attitudes of god that are universal across all religions? I'd be interested in hearing what those are.

(And when I say religion, I mean religion/faith/belief, ie, organized or disorganized belief.)

I belive he would forgive. In the Catholic faith we are told exactly that. That God is our father and no father can reject his son(s) or daughter(s) if they show true remorse and repent. But, then again the Catholic chuch says a lot of things that make you go...WTF?

Christian WTF

Yeah, like: Babies that die immediately after birth are the happiest beings, because they go to heaven immediately IF they are baptised (in the womb) and thus are without a sin.

So they started to baptise unborn. And new questions arose: What if there are twins? Do we have to baptise again? Which twin? What if it's a freak with two heads? Aaargh!

Catholic...

Exactly. And the list goes on and on and on...

Sin is the most ridiculous, vague and irrelevant term I have ever come across in all my years. Weren't the words "bad", "evil" or "wrong" enough? What was so wrong with ordinary language that we had to add this stupid religious term on top of it?
