»Give us a hand.... Goth music«

Ok, this halloween I had an excuse to try out black eyeliner (you might have seen the pic of me in a my zombie make up with the blood tears). I am thinking of wearing eyeliner more often when I go out to clubs.

The problem here is... I don't really know what counts as goth music and was wondering if you guys could tell me which stuff was best? I think you'd agree that if I become a goth who mostly listens to Emo and doesn't know any goth music I'm gonna seem pretty weird...

Siouxie and the banshees are cool, but is there any more recent goth stuff?

Having been down the goth/punk road many years ago in my college days it kind of irks me that a lot of 'goths' these days listen to marilyn manson because he wears makeup. The guy is industrial rock but hey, lets not get into a genre debate.

Modern goth bands? don't really know of that many, Nightwish are rock but with a goth flavour. try these

As for classic goth you should try, The Cure(obviously) The Mission, The Damned, Sisters of mercy, Alien sex fiend, Jesus and mary chain(before they went alternative)

Yes, oh yes.. keep going

Sisters of Marilyn

Crossfade:
Sisters of mercy

Well if you go to their own website
the very first sentence says:
Quote:
This is the official site of The Sisters Of Mercy.
We are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine.

Which is why

I said listen to classic albums, maybe they have turned into some industrial rog/rock act, i don't know because i don't listen to goth any more but in the early 80's they were most definately goth and have what is called a classic goth album 'Sisters Of Mercy - Some Girls Wander By Mistake' Aaah, is there anything better than to post here and to drink something

Name some songs?

If I'm going to see whether they are worth looking into I want to know which songs are the best examples.

Goth is fun. I used to hit that scene exclusively. Life's so much less entertaining now that I'm out of it.

Anyway, some goth bands... Rosetta Stone, Mephisto Walz, Switchblade Symphony. I'd argue Joy Division too, tho I think people would disagree with me there. I'd disagree with KNN on Depeche Mode, and The Cure is kinda tame these days.

Depeche Mode, and The Cure is kinda tame these days.

Yeah, these days. Now they are "depression pop" like R.E.M.

But in those old glory days they were the spidermen...

You kids!

Try these for size..

Bauhaus "Bela Lugosi's Dead"
The Cure "Siamese Twins"
Alien sex fiend "I walk the line"
The Mission "Tower of Strength"
Sisters of mercy "Body Electric"
Fields of the Nephilim "Preacher man"
Killing Joke "Requiem and Change"

Killing Joke arent really goth but i get fed up of all this EMO bullshit, have a listen to the guys who invented intelligent punk

If you don't like any of these then you ain't a goth, give up now White laugh

Bauhaus

Goodness, forgot Bauhaus, glad you caught that one.

Goth is moody, a bit wicked. You don't have to be depressed to enjoy it. I'm actually a quite positive person, and yet I enjoyed the goth scene.

knn:
Depeche mode

Eh? I learned something new, I guess

No way - unless they've recently changed

and The Cure.

Now that's not what Cure fans claim.
"We are often mistaken for Goths, but that's not what it's about at all"
- TV Documentary on "Why do you cure fans look like goths yet claim not to be" White laugh
Crossfade:
The Cure(obviously)

Look another one at it.

Stop it will you. White laugh

No! Very Happy
Their first album was pure goth if they like it or not, surely all the dyed black hair and black eyeliner gave them a clue? White laugh
