Image, taken in January 2004 by the Stardust spacecraft, shows the comet Wild 2's surface pockmarked with craters. When the scientists sent a spacecraft up to get a close look at a comet they thought they knew what they'd see. They were wrong. The Stardust spacecraft sent back puctures of broad mesas, craters, pinnicles and canyons with flat floors on the surface of comet Wild 2 The picture was taken 236 kilometers from the comet.
