I present to you, a slight lesson on Bogan Aussie Slang (there is way too many forms of slang in Australia.) Australia Bogan slang is the most commonly related to Australia and Australian's with such popular phrases as 'G'day mate' and 'Crikey!' Well the Aussie Bogan Slang is alot broader than just that. A sample of the language - *Positive Remarks - You Beauty! - Can be used to in reference to a person or a thing or an event. A perfect example is congratualating a mate for fixing your car with a 'you little beauty'! Mainly used as just a congratulatory remark, but its meaning can be very broad! The BEH in beauty is dragged to different lengths depending on effect, e.g. You little BEEHUTEY. Adding 'little' between the words is used with many positive remarks, like the next one! You ripper! - You ripper can have little be substituted with bloody for a more amazed effect. You little ripper has pretty much the same meaning as You little beauty! *General Substituting Words - Shreds - pretty much substitutes 'shit' in 'shits over' Route/Routed - substitutes fuck and sex. Pronounce 'ROOHT'! Struthe - Means like 'Shiit that was fast' or 'shiit that hes big' but more like STROOTH, the higher the note you end on, the more it's empaphised! Bugger - Said very quickly and with a very low tone. Just means 'damn'. Crikey - A word of suprise that is very rarely used! *Phrases - Too Right - Said very quickly, an agreeing term when you believe someone whole heartedly. e.g. "You Tell It Like it Is" "You Speak the Truth Brother" and here we have "Too right". Can also be used as just a confirming term adding a sense of your like for something. e.g. "Going to the beach again?" "Too right!" There is alot more, I'll add more later but that should be enough for now! posted by hungarian kid |

Not where I live, everyone just drones in monotone and speaks a different slang I'm pretty hateful of. But the bogan raising of the voice is great, makes them seem so optimistic! posted by hungarian kid |

Forms of Day and Night Bogans alter day and night words, usually putting an e or an o on the end or replacing words with different ones. Days of the week are turned into - Mondee Tuesdee Wednesdee Thursdee Fridee (barely ever used) Satdee Sundee Afternoon is turned into arvo and arvee. Although it doesn't reference the proper afternoon, it just generally means any time after 3 pm. This arvo can generally mean any time between 3pm and 12 am. Example - "Want to come over this evening?" becomes "Oi, ya wanna come up this arvo?" Forms of Dinner and other Eating Activities The most commonly associated one of these is "Barbie" instead of Barbeque. Forms of dinner vary aswell, dinner is commonly known as 'tea' when no one really drinks tea. Lunch can sometimes become tucker and tucker time, but not very commonly. E.g. "Oi, ya wanna come over this arvo for some tea and a barbie?" posted by hungarian kid |
