 Goth things depress me...black coat and black everything, its so depressing. but if you are into that that's cool. im into being preppy. i like nice clean cut hair nice shirts, old navy, the gap, abercrombie and fitch. that's my style! also hooded sweatshirts of my favorite college are good too! 1. No, your coat doesn't have to be leather. 2. You can wear sneakers if you want. However, Doc Martens are extremely comfortable once broken in. And they last forever. 3. Yes, goths can wear jeans. Look at Andrew Eldritch (he's a goth even though he'll never admit it.) 4. Tell people your hair is old-school. No joke. Backcombed and teased hair was big among '80s Goths. Pull up some old pictures of Nick Cave and Robert Smith to see what I mean. 5. Skyospark.net is a PARODY site. Don't anything they say too seriously. Marilyn Manson  is not a goth band and never will be.
____ Now for the music. Arguably, music one of the most important parts of goth. I'm serious. Like it or not, goth is a musically based subculture and if you don't even know which two bands are considered the granddaddies of them all, you'll be laughed out of town. (For the record, they were Bauhaus and Joy Division) You say on your profile you like hardcore and emo so I'll give you some suggestions. Your love of hardcore makes me think you might like deathrock. Deathrock is heavily punk-influenced and hilarious as hell. Most of the deathrock vocalists were excellent screamers. Look up 45 Grave, Alien Sex Fiend, Christian Death, Shadow Project, and Specimen. Remember the names 'Dinah Cancer', 'Nik Fiend', 'Rozz Williams', and 'Johnny Slut.' Now for EMO... Hmmmm... Try Joy Division. They were depressing as hell. Note: Don't bother looking for any of these bands (except maybe Joy Division) in record shops. They might have them, but it isn't very likely. Your best bet would be to download MP3s or buy the albums online. Oh, and make sure you listen to Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi's Dead. More or less, it is THE Goth anthem. P.S. HIM is not gothic rock, but it's awfully close. Closer than Marilyn Manson anyway. posted by fattypie42 |

and fatpie i didn't mean anything negitively by my comments, i'm just confused like noc usually it is a bit earlier in ones life that they experiment and/or rebel whether it be the way they dress or drugs or whatever... i can understand the clothes change more than i can understand the music change, just listen to what you like man, don't think, "hey i'm gonna dress goth, i gotta listen to goth music too" if you happen to come across some you like by all means listen to it, but it sounds like you are trying to hard, and if you are trying to hard then it doesn't seem to me it is natural to you posted by The ONEder Man |

Also who says marilyn manson isnt a goth band of course he is and if you think he is not we have different opinions on goth music. And I am a goth I went goth in grade 9 and escalated over the years but I still listen to my favorite bands like nirvana and that doesnt make me any less of a goth. The whole idea of goth is individuality not conformism if one goth hates marilyn manson and one goth loves him they are both still goths one of them is not a better goth.
