»HELP! with mp3 cutting«

 I need help finding a program that splits a large mp3 file into smaller ones. I have a mixed cd all in a single 120 MB file that I want to split into the actual tracks but I can't find an appropriate program that will do the job so that when I burn the CD the change from one track to the next won't be noticeable. If you own a mixed CD from Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk or some other you'll know what I'm talking about.

 You don't need to split something, you need just 1 continuous music file where you just set the "logical Entry Points" (for your CD player's "Skip forward" buttons) However, this is probably complicated to achieve, so I suggest to split the file in several files. I don't understand the problem. Any freeware music editor will do. Maybe some won't work directly on mp3 files, but then you just need to convert them to .wav posted by knn |

The problem I have is that on the original file (or original CD  ) the transition from one track to the next can't be heard, and after I split them and burn them to an audio CD, there is a millisecond of silence that makes the transition obvious. I want my CD to sound exactly like the AlbumWrap mp3 file I downloaded, just one continous mix from start to finish without any skips or milliseconds of silence between tracks.

Your idea seems great knn, but do know how to acheive this? What program are you using to burn the split audio tracks to cd? Most audio burner progs will remove the standard 2 sec silence btw tracks. Not sure about your millisecond problem. Have you tried playing the cd in another cd player or two? If this is the only cd that you have had the problem on, then make sure your split points are seemless. i.e. if all the split mp3s/wav files transition fine in winamp then you need to try a different burner prog like  VS posted by volonteshiva |

I'm using Easy CD Creator 4. I know it's not exactly the best program to burn CDs but it does have the option to remove the 2 seconds between tracks and that's what I do. But still, there is this millisecond of silence that won't let the mix flow smoothly. The split second of silence also appears when I play the files on Winamp, so I don't know what to do. The split second of silence also appears when I play the files on Winamp, so I don't know what to do. Appreciate your help then it sounds like the splitting program is the problem. try using that mp3directcut link. Make sure to cut/end one track and start another track at the same time value. Another option is virtualdub w/ the lame mp3 encoder installed. should be able to cut and use directstream copying. posted by volonteshiva |

 This might be the long route, but when I was modifying MP3s, I would convert them to .wav, modify the .wav using a .wav editor, then convert them back to MP3. posted by Tiefling |

The long file I downloaded is flawless. I hear it as if I'm playing the original CD, with no gaps or pauses between the tracks. posted by Echelon |

 Echelon: there is a millisecond of silence that makes the transition obvious. 1 millisecond? You cannot hear 1 millisecond. 20 you can hear. 1) OK, if you hear a gap, then do as I wrote in my first post (= use a CUE sheet in CDWave). 2) Who converts your .mp3s to .wavs? You or your burning program? That can also be a source of problems, since silence may be introduced by this conversion. In other words: Convert first and don't let your burning prog convert it for you. Important: Convert to 44.1 KHz 3) Nero can insert gaps even if set to "0ms". This bug was solved in Nero 5.5.7.8 and above. posted by knn |

 Nero Burning rom has the option to change the gap timings between tracks. i seem to remember i used it on a mix cd i had, i just turned the gap time down to zero and hey presto it played seemlessly in a cd player posted by Crossfade |

At a CD forum that in order to get flawless transitions I need to convert it to wav first. They said it's impossible to get the same result as in the original CD with split mp3 files. Is this true? posted by Echelon |

It seems that I figured out what I have to do by now, but I need some serious help on how to use the friggin' cue sheets to burn my CD. Can anybody please explain to me hot the hell I use them? What program should I download? Etc, etc, etc. Your help would be highly appreciated! posted by Echelon |
