That everyone stop listening to Cradle Of Filth and listen to some proper black metal, such as Emperor, Immortal and Satyricon. Please, for Christ's sake, take my advice. posted by northern_james |

Please, for Christ's sake, take my advice. You're music taste is preetty closeminded (that's not an insult.) No one said Cradle Of Filth is Black Metal, infact that hasn't been mentioned ONCE in this thread. This thread is just recommending a Cradle of Filth song... posted by hungarian kid |

northern_james: Ehhh...dude. I listen to everything from Cannibal Corpse to the Chemical Brothers. Lol sorry my mistake. I almost saw Chemical Brothers live the other night but there was about 30 000 people trying to get in at once. Sorry, forget the closeminded part, but I stand by my point that no genre was mentioned in this thread, posted by hungarian kid |

northern_james: Maybe I should have said..."if you like Cradle of Filth, here are some good bands to check out " Heh, just look at your 'my favourite bands list', that's full of some good metal. northern_james: ...CoF is classified as Black Metal by the general public. Seriously? I thought it was classifed as death metal? I just classify it all as metal, I'm not a fan of subgenres. posted by hungarian kid |

Have you actually heard this song or are you just presuming it will be like all the other Cradle Of Filth songs. This thread is supposed to be recommending this song, not recommending the band as a whole... posted by fatpie42 |

...and I hate it. End of story. As for HK...death metal and black metal are hugely different things. Here's a brief explanation of both: Death metal evolved from the thrash and underground metal movements in the late 80's in the United States (mainly Florida). Its sound is characterised by low, growling vocals, lyrics revolving (often) around death, decay, etc., extremely fast drumming, distorted, downtuned guitars, and low bass lines. Examples of good (classic) death metal bands are Cannibal Corpse, Death, Morbid Angel, and early Carcass. More modern examples are Nile (the best of the best, IMO), Decapitated and Behemoth. Black metal, on the other hand, evolved mostly in Scandinavia. Its main characteristics are high-pitched, screeching vocals, Satanic or evil-themed lyrics, blast beats, heavily distorted guitars, and a very raw sound. The pioneers of the black metal movement came mostly from Norway. Some good classic black metal bands are Immortal, Darkthrone and Mayhem. For those more melodically inclined, check out Satyricon, Enslaved and Emperor (my favorite). Hope this helps. posted by northern_james |

I'm listening to Emperor right now (In the Nightshade Eclipse). Ain't that nice? I'll tell you how I like it in a bit. Edit: Oh, it would be nice if you could tell me where I should start with this band, as a newbie. Edit #2: Wow, they're really good! posted by Nianza |

Edit: Oh, it would be nice if you could tell me where I should start with this band, as a newbie. Edit #2: Wow, they're really good! In the Nightside Eclipse is an excellent album, but somewhat hard to digest, as with all of their albums. There's really no good beginning point, so to speak. I suggest you check out Anthems to the Welkin At Dusk, though...it's pure brilliance. posted by northern_james |
