 One popular place to meet people is boozers - pubs, clubs, winebars, nightclubs etc). You have to wonder if the number of relationships which fail could be at all related to the fact that so many start with one or both people being pissed. I mean we don't make the best decisions in this state.
But seriously, it has to be related to the false images we put out as part of the ritual. In my late teens, me and my friends all wore ironed shirts, pressed pants and polished shoes to go out on the pull. We daubed ourselves in expensive aftershave in order to "impress" the girls - it's all about first impressions. Bollocks  - we only ever did this to cop off, it was never a true representation of us. No wonder when the "pull" turns into a relationship there's dissapointment.
A guy doesn't smell that good all the time and women do have body hair below the neck. Both men AND women fart and everyone's shit stinks no matter where you shop.
