Ralph can't be said to be offtopic cause he has just summarised what has already been said. Sometimes a thread just has to run its course. I personally don't see how this thread could've gone any other way. So what d'you think knn. Is it time for what they call a 'bump'? (A bump is when a new thread is created because the topic has changed, right?) posted by fatpie42 |

knn: 4thedefenderr: in fact, the very ideas this nation was founded on, freedom, justice, equality, they were all derived from religious beliefs. Hey, I thought US was founded on the slaughtering of Indians... Wait, must have been another country. If you really believe in religious eauality, and everone has the right to believe or not believe, why are you pushing so hard to have the christian view imposed on people in this country? Why not let everyon believe as they choose and keep the government out of it? Hypocrit! posted by preacherman |

EITHER way it does not make sense. fourthedefender: fourthedefender: You don’t have to suppress all religion in order to prevent the development of an oppressive theocracy. We are all supposed to have the basic freedom to practice and express our own religious beliefs. So he is not for imposing, but just expressing. and knn, i think... does not support religious beliefs. I'm not sure, didn't read the whole thread, but based on experience, yeaahhh... posted by sangu |

The ONEder Man: fatpie42: A non-religious perspective means that 'personal religious beliefs' should be irrelevant to the discussion. For example if a Hindu and a Muslim are discussing state politics they would be best off not bringing their religious views into the debate. how can those perspectives in which you speak ever be irrelevant? logically their views on state politics will be closely related to their religous point of view correct? I'm not sure how I missed this. One-der-man I completely disagree. How can religious views have any meaningful link with politics? Presumably this concept is based on some idea that morality is inseperable from a religious context. If someone says that their religion considers fertilised human eggs to be as important as fully grown humans then obviously that will affect their standpoint on scientific research, however there are many other issues concerning what benefits such research brings. Eventually the issue needs to be seen practically and, concerning issues of modern medicine, most scripture is a bit out of date. posted by fatpie42 |
