C'mon, there's some kinds of music that don't qualify as such. Just as there are "artists" who are way short of being actual artists. Mere posers with good looks is what they are. As an example you have your Britneys, Christinas, Justins, Backstreet Boys, and the list goes on. Some of them are lucky to have good musicians, writers, and composers working behind them

Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Britney, Ronan Keating etc is actually music
with a high quality standard. Certainly a music degree of some kind is needed in order to be able to make such well arranged music. The producers are talented without any doubt. It's only that everything sounds the same and after several million similar sounding songs everyone should realize that most of it is uninspired, standardized trash.
Of course this doesn't have anything
to do with whole music genres.

The big record companies want known sounds

I saw recently a report about the music industry and a music maker/talent seeker complained that the big record labels are totally afraid to lose 1 tiny bit of their market. And they simply refuse to publish something that hasn't shown any success before.

To cut a long story short: They only want known sounds that have proven they can sell.

AND: There is another reason. There are only a handful songwrites/arrangers:

Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, N'Sync, Brandy, Backstreet boys, Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, Will Smith, Mary J. Blige, Enrique Iglesias, Aaliyah

Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Aaliyah, Ginuwine

Dr. Dre ♣ writes for/ produces:
2Pac, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre

R. Kelly ♣ writes for/ produces:
Britney Spears, R.Kelly, Aaron Carter, Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, N'Sync

No wonder, it all sounds like from 1 studio

That's it. They're afraid to try out anything new, just because it could cost them money. They even only rely only on a handful of songwriters which serve them
as hit machines. Surely one day the people will have enough of it and the whole music industry will collapse.

Who are these "the people"? The ones who provide the industry with the most money are little kids who don't know any better. For them this is new and interesting.

Those who know better have a variety of less well marketed artists available to them:
the darkness, the white stripes, the yeah yeah yeahs, system of a down, korn, marilyn manson, taking back sunday

These are all very different artists. So until David Grohl is writing/producing every rock song that comes our way we can feel safe What now?
