»Republicans attack independent 9/11 commission«

Quote:
Many Republicans are furious about the commission -- though its members are evenly split between the two parties and it is chaired by a Republican appointed by Bush. They say that Bush was right to oppose the commission in the first place, and that House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) was right this year when he unsuccessfully fought an extension of the commission's deadline.

The panel has become "a tool for partisan politics," Rep. Eric I. Cantor (Va.), a member of the House Republican leadership, charged in an interview last week. "With the latest commission finding coming out that there were allegedly no ties between Hussein and al Qaeda, I think they are totally off their mission, and I think that's indicative of the political partisanship."

Look at the article and you can see

The slanted reporting. In everything but the quote, msn is trying to imply that republicans are being unresonable. They aren't reporting that the 9-11 commission reported links between al-quida and saddam (just not on 9-11) but are trying to make republicans look crazy.
Little additions like"though it's members are split between the two parties" is not fair and balanced journalism. It's manipulative journalism and it doesn't present the whole story.

Bush insists that bin Laden had links to Saddam
From James Bone in New York

PRESIDENT Bush, rushing to defuse an explosive election issue, yesterday challenged the findings of an independent commission that there was no “collaborative relationship” between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.

As the September 11 commission held a gripping final hearing, Mr Bush repeated his conviction that there was a link between the Iraqi dictator and Osama bin Laden’s terror network — one of his key reasons for the war against Iraq.

“The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al-Qaeda is because there was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda,” Mr Bush told reporters after a meeting with his Cabinet.

“This Administration never said that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated between Saddam and al-Qaeda,” he said. “We did say there were numerous contacts between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.” Despite increasingly partisan divisions among its members, the September 11 commission appeared this week to embrace the findings of its staff that bin Laden and Saddam never worked together.

The commission’s investigators, who received access to highly classified information, reported that a senior Iraqi intelligence officer had made three visits to Sudan and finally met bin Laden there in 1994. Bin Laden was said to have requested space to set up training camps as well as help in procuring weapons, but was rebuffed by Saddam.

Not responsibly reporting the REAL findings of 9-11. Look up some primary source information. There's an interview with an actual member of the 9-11 commission on fox. It's primary news which means that the media hasn't had a chance to slant it. This has already been discussed though.

A self-contradicting statement.

But nevertheless: Would be cool if you could mention in-my-opinion.org in your biography Smile
