Im on a Sports roll, so what does everyone think of this season? Labron james and his 2 triple doubles, and the Pheonix suns(32-10) tearing up the court this year? although the NBA is not as interesting as college sports, ithink it still has its appeal. Im gonna go on a limb and say that this year we will see the Minosota Timberwolves in the NBA finals this year. They are my pick because they have the talent to do it, Kevin Garnett is as good as usual he is leading with the most rebounds or second chance shots. and his team mates are helping pu the points in. I watched them beat the seattle sonics on friday who are leading the division 28-11 and i love to something liek that. and this is not just my opinion. others are jumping on the band wagen. The T-wolves will recover their crap start and go on to the finals this year. and on the other side who will they be facing? well lets find out... The Heat are destroyng their division like the suns are the heat are currently 30-12 they have the best record in the easter division which most say lacks talent. the Clevland Cavs are the only ones who can give them some what of a fight but i think maybe the heat vs t-wolves this year? maybe, if the pistons can pull together they might be playing in the finals...the playoffs are all for upsets maybe even the crap atlantic devision might get the upsets this year...who knows maybe we will be seeing the 76rs in the finals even though Allen Iverson has the 2nd most turnovers in the league behind LAs lakers he is leading the NBA with an average of 27 points a game...anything can happen in the easter conference. But as i see it, it hopefully will be the t-wolves and the obvious pick from the east the heat, with shaq on that team they might be unstopable. He has a .605 feild goal percentage this year. Maybe his best seasons? he is leading with his percentage in the NBA along with Haslem who is 4th on the list. another one of his teamates for the heat. The t-wolves need to come together and win more games. The sonics are ahead at the moment by 7 games. All the T-wolves have to do is get ahead and then we will see them in the playoffs and then the finals. cmon boys i know you can do it. but what about the spurs? well tim duncan can shove it...i never liked him. he is a arogent punk and they are only winning because he blocks shots and never gets called for his fouls. i hate the spurs, im bitter ever since the last time the won. anyways... Who is everyones picks this year? posted by Agent Zero |

NBA 2005 is gonna suck, cuz Basketball has always sucked. What a stupid game. A sport that favours one specific physical characteristic is obviously badly devised. And some yankee made it, doesn't have any history behind it, no wonder it sucks. posted by ralph_angelus |

Basketball? No thanks.
I’m not much of a sports fan, although I can occasionally enjoy a football or baseball game, even though it requires a rather large investment in time. But, basketball? I really think basketball is a dumb game. Now, if you’re one of the millions of basketball fans, kindly reach down and unbunch your undies. If you like basketball, that’s fine. I don’t think less of basketball fans, and I am not trying to dissuade you of your love of the game. I am just taking advantage of my tiny place in the blogosphere to express my thoughts on that game that was, after all, invented in 1891 when James Naismith hung a couple peach baskets in the gym in an effort to get a bunch of lazy jocks to exercise during the cold winter months. Here are some of the reasons why I don’t much care for basketball or “basket ball” (as it was originally known). Basketball is heavily populated with genetic outliers. Basketball is a game for TALL people – very TALL people. People of average height and short people need not apply. Frankly, it is difficult for me to be impressed to see a seven feet tall guy jump in the air and plop the ball in the basket with slightly more effort than it takes me to get a coffee cup from the top shelf in the kitchen cabinet. Now, I know many of you are probably thinking that all sports, to one extent or another, seek out genetic outliers. So, if the genetic cards you’ve been dealt make you neckless, six a half feet tall, and three hundred pounds, football might be your game. Similarly, if you are very short in stature and weigh in at 90 pounds while holding a radiator in their hands, you might be sought out to be a jockey. However, it seems different with basketball. If you’re a kid who at 16 or 17 is tickling seven feet tall, I’ll bet you hear virtually every day of your life, “Hey, you must play basketball.” What if the kid thinks basketball is a dumb game? I’ll bet that for kids like that it’s easier just humor everyone and play the damned rather than having to spend your life explaining why it is you’re not a basketball player. Hell, if somewhere a nine-foot tall guy were to surface, the NBA teams would fight tooth and nail for his services. Then we could just watch this guy reach up and effortlessly drop the ball in the basket. Thrilling. Dumb. “Dribbling” – Duh. The original thirteen rules written by James Naismith did not permit a player to move with the ball. The ball could only be advanced by passing it to another player. One day, some smartass (undoubtedly a genetic outlier, taller than everyone else), got the bright idea to pass the ball to himself, thereby permitting him to advance the ball simply by repeatedly tossing it up in the air and catching it. This self-passing became part of the rules. At a later time, someone had the swell idea that you could move with the ball as long as you did bouncy-ball with it while moving. And, as if this bouncy-ball thing wasn’t dumb enough, someone decided to call it “dribbling.” Dribbling? What a dumb choice of words. What does bouncing a ball on the floor have to do with dribbling? One wonders why it was not called “drooling.” Then again, it could have been worse. The bouncy-ball thing could have been called "barfing" or "farting." Grown men doing bouncy-ball. Dumb. I hate the sounds. Basketball makes bad sounds. To me, the sounds of the bouncy-ball and the sneakers squeaking against the floor are most unpleasant. Oh yeah, don’t forget the horn that blasts at the end of the periods. Who could possibly like that sound? Dumb. Foul shots. These are really dumb. When someone commits a foul, the game stops while the genetic outlier stands directly in front of the basket and tosses it in most times. But, before he tosses it in, we are treated to a little more bouncy-ball. This leads me to wonder why these highly paid, very tall people ever miss, and why they have to do the bouncy-ball thing before the toss it into the basket? Dumb. Basketball (particularly professional basketball) is a haven for felons of all descriptions. Now I know that basketball does not have a monopoly on its participants being criminals. But it sure seems like basketball leads the way in this department. Don’t these guys know that if they were not basketball players, they would be largely unemployable? Dumb. posted by ralph_angelus |

Agent Zero: Who is everyones picks this year? Since it's a sports thread, you know I've gotta respond...however, I couldn't care less about the NBA. I can't stand it...it sucks. It is the worst form of basketball...and I love basketball. It's just a travesty to see the state the league is in now. I can remember growing up and loving the NBA...now, blech. ralph_angelus: NBA 2005 is gonna suck, cuz Basketball has always sucked. What a stupid game. A sport that favours one specific physical characteristic is obviously badly devised. And some yankee made it, doesn't have any history behind it, no wonder it sucks. Wow, this statement came from Ralph? What a surprise. Your statement is so full of faults, I'd have to start a new thread just to list them all. Ralph, what you fail to realize is that every sport favors a specific characteristic. Yes, even your cherished sports of cricket and football. Oh yeah, and your statement about no history...WTF is that? What, a sport can't have it's roots come from the U.S? Are you limiting the nations or continents that sports can have roots from? Does hockey not have any credibility as a sport because it was started in Canada? posted by GP |

fine...here goes: In the East, I think the Heat is the team to beat. Besides Shaq, they've also got the NBA fastest rising star in Dwyane Wade...plus he's from Marquette (a private university in Wisconsin) so that helps. I actually really like LeBron. I think the NBA is doing the right thing by making him the face of the NBA. He's got the talent, the looks, and the attitude to potential bring the league back from the dregs that it has been in the past...well, a long time. It also helps that he's on a really good team right now. He's got a good group of players surrounding him in Gooden, Z, and Jeff MacInnis. They've been steamrolling people so far, we'll see if they continue. As for the other teams in the East: Detroit poses a threat but I don't see them defending their title; Indiana has too many problems w/suspensions, so that's a problem and that's it...the rest of the East sucks. In the West, I think it's going to come down between the Suns and the Spurs. The Suns have absolutely been running wild so far and look like they have the necessary ingredients for a run...except that they are lacking on D...and that will kill you come playoff time. The Spurs are the Spurs. You know what you are going to get every game...good D, well-balanced O, and a whole lot of Timmy D. If I had a favorite for the title, it'd be them. Other teams in the West that are contending are the Wolves, Sonics, and Mavs. I really like the Mavs as their backcourt is comprised of guys from Wisconsin (Mike Finley and Devin Harris). So that's it...ugh, I feel dirty talking about the NBA for that long. posted by GP |

Agent Zero: well tim duncan can shove it...i never liked him. he is a arogent punk and they are only winning because he blocks shots arrogant punk? doesnt sound like TD... i don't have any picks b/c anything can happen at anytime so i don't know, but im not really that hot on the t-wolves. garnett is great, but heck, the lakers beat them. that oughta say something (not about the lakers, about the t-wolves). spurs, suns, yeah, they're gonna be up there as long as nash stays healthy. lebron is doing great. i figured he wont do that great, coming in from high school and all, but 2 straight triple doubles? good stuff why do u hate the nba so GP? lol. ralph, the article was a bunch of...anyway, i think all sports are great and are challenging and fun in their own way. i think im going to create threads that talk not only about the main events in sports, but like personal, more "in depth" stories about sports. i came upon a few floating around. posted by sangu |

i like to hear that...sports is becoming big part of my life. I really enjoy it. The NBA is a dramatic crap hole with all the players running crazy. but it still has a lot of untapped unspoken talent. like Seattles own PG this year that kid from oregon. He has alot of potential and has been doign good for his team this year. as for tim duncan...i stick to my original comment posted by Agent Zero |

on a side note, i was watching the boys' basketball team (we, girls, are kicking butt in our league but the boys are quite the other way around) and i noticed a main difference: "flashiness". its nice, its cool. no-look passes, weird twisty laypups, straying away from the play and trying to make all these cool, and sometimes stupid, passes. there was this guy leading a fstbreak and tried to throw an awkward no look pass that ended up getting stolen. like watching a bunch of showoffs on the court. that's what i got from watching the first quarter. we girls don't care how we make a pass, as long as it gets there. don't care how we make a layup, so long as it goes in. and the result? we're doing a heck lot better. you could sort of tie this into the nba. posted by sangu |

its flashy and show offy alot. but that's men for you. gotta show off. i think alot of coachs see that and get mad and other coaches don't care. I know my college team when someoen shows off...they get talked to. there is a kid who is a freakign show off and never listens to his team mates. he always drops passes and missed layin or screws up dunks. its annoying posted by Agent Zero |

you could sort of tie this into the nba. this is also the reason people watch the NBA more than they do they WNBA, in the NBA there are things that are innovative, drunk passes etc. that have never been seen before, i remember watching Jordan just in hopes that he would steal a pass go on a fast break and do some kinda crazy dunk i've never seen before. very cool. not to take away from the team aspect of b-ball which the NBA already has enough as it is, but it wouldn't hurt the WNBA to have a female player that could improvise and had the natural skill to pull of some not so routine moves, create some hype and people would want to watch her to see what she pulls off next. posted by The ONEder Man |

well we females do that, we have the ability to do it, just that we don't neccessarily see the reason why. at least speaking for my team. we throw no-looks in practice, go for the reverse, what not, but only every once in a while. i mean, we don't see the point, a pass is a pass. guys are more flashy, which is cool, but not that good. my coach (he's coached boys and girls varsity teams), said he preferrred coaching girls more because they support each other more. like on boys' teams, you get the second stringers secretly rooting for the starters to do bad so they can play. posted by sangu |

sangu: im speaking for my high school team. nba and the wnba are different things. Well, it all comes down to how many tickets the wnba sells. If fundamentals and teamwork are going to sell enough tickets to keep the wnba going and perhaps even thriving, then all power to it. The crowd has to be there, otherwise sponsors and advertising goes away. posted by volonteshiva |

The crowd has to be there, otherwise sponsors and advertising goes away. They could lose every sponsor they have and the WNBA would still be in business. Why? Two words...David Stern. The commish of the NBA feels is so important that the U.S. has a women's professional league that he's willing to accept and back the WNBA even though it hasn't turned a profit since it's first year in existence. Noble, but Ol' Davey better start worrying about the NBA turning a profit if the quality of play doesn't improve. They're already getting killed in weekly ratings by college hoops. posted by GP |
