»Only those in US on 9.11 really know what it felt like«

Princess Diana was the only member of the Royal family that did shit. She gave alot of money to charities and worked for peoples well being. She was making the rest of the family look shit and they were pissed off at.

Funny how they don't tell you that on the news.

I'm sure it was sad when Diana died. But it is nothing compared to what everyone in the USA felt on 9/11.

i think its very ignorant to say that no one knows what it feels like except the americans

as me and i think marl64 brought up before...for the best part of 40 years great britain was at the sharp end of terrorism stemming from the troubles in northern ireland with the republican and unionist paramilitary group such as the IRA and the UVF etc

over 40 years hundreds upon hundreds of people have been slaughtered in these bombings...the final massive tragedy being the omagh bombing

thankfully one of the most massive attacks only claimed 2 lives...that of the london docklands bombing

but as i say...we know what it feels like and have done for a long long time...and while the scale of sept 11th may have been massive...it is the relative lack of trouble before it that made such a massive impact on the psyche of the american people...in recent history only the omaha bombing  and the previous attack on the WTC were domestic terror...

since then we have had

bali
madrid
kenya
turkey
saudu arabia

New feeling

I think it is pretty fair to assume that WTC was not totally but a bit different

1) First time such a huge attack
2) First time taped by so many amateurs on a beautiful sunshiny day, so one could watch it again and again
3) First of such attacks worldwide (air planes)
4) First time hit on domestic soil

one that

the americans were unused to...hence the power of the emotional impact...

but being under the fear of terror for 40 years is not a pleasant feeling for a nation...in america the feeling of fear is in its infancy...and the motives behind the terror have no political endgame...they are merely to kill...and in that sense the feeling would be different

the IRA killed to forward the cause of seperation of northern ireland for britain...al queda kill americans...for being americans

that must be a difficult thing to live with

although saying that,...many off the people killed in northern ireland were killed for being catholic/protestant...and for no other reason

Other locations would turn fear into total terror

the americans were unused to

Actually they still are.

I heard in the news that all terrorists need to do now, is to attack other cities. So far USAnians still kind of think "Well, that was in New York City".

A total horror would break out if suddenly other institutions would get bombed... schools, universities, Washington...

No kidding

Yea, all we need is a dirty bomb to go off in downtown L.A.. Can you imagine what would happen then? I think even the liberal left would go down the warpath then. Let's just hope it doesn't happen.

Actually I don't know whether it would mean, that the conservatives get stronger or weaker. They speculated that the next attack is overdue at election time...

I was watching NYPD Blue and polishing my shoes for school the next day when the program was rudely interrupted for some flash news. I first thought it was part of the series, then I got irritated, finally I listened to the news and the first thing I thought of was my relatives there. One actually worked a stone's throw from the towers and used to go there occasionally for business too.

Many of our countries have had our share of terrorism but this thread is right in a way - no one except Americans felt the full shock of 9/11, that is if they understood it's full import - many just shrug and do whatever - because they've never been attacked before, like someone else said, for being who they were, so pointedly on their own homeland using their own planes filled with mostly their own civilians and killing many more on land.

But I don't say that no one except the USAnians knew what it felt like - that's close-minded and unfair.
