»Only those in US on 9.11 really know what it felt like«

not just you

We are your closest allies, we were afraid we were gonna get attacked too.
I woke up on 9/11, news was on and instantly a plane just slams into the side of this building. I found out the details and eventually the thought of being attacked wore off then the Bali Bombings happened...

Personally I didn't give a sh*t

I was in India at the time. In fact the Indians were very keen on getting involved. When Pakistan was highlighted as being major supporters of the Taliban India just lapped it up. India also made pleas to America to include Pakistan as a major focus of the war on terrorism especially because of the 'terrorism' in Kashmir performed by Pakistani extremists.

That all happened later. As I'm sure i have told you all before I was in a buddhist monastery teaching English. One morning one of the monks who spoke English well says "In America someone has flown a plane into a sky scraper". My reaction was "what an idiot".

Then he went on to tell me that they'd hit the World Trade Center. That didn't mean an awful lot to me. When I got told that TWO planes had made the same mistake my reaction was that they must be VERY stupid pilots.

When I was finally told it was intentionally done by terrorists (this i was told later over the phone, by my parents back home), the whole thing had kind of lost its effect...

I remember..

..watching it on tv, seeing the second plane hit was unbelievable, it made the blood freeze. It still amazes me the towers collapsed, seen a few programs since that have explained the design flaws of the towers and how they couldnt withstand the heat from the sheer amount of fuel on the planes..very sad.

see now that's just sad...who appludes thousands of civilian deaths? i don't get it... i don't think any u.s. people applude the deaths of any one during the war, they may see it as just but death is still unwanted...and these are soldiers deaths, not people just doing their jobs in the morning...i'm confused at such blatant disregard for human life..

that's is horrble that they would aplode. i remember cnn showing clips of middle eastern people dancing in the streets after the towers fell. but come to find out it was clips from the end of the gulf war. sad the CNN would stoop to something so low. Angered me. after i heard that the pentagon was hit i was like "oh crap this is it" i figured the US would fling into chaos. but it really didn't people banded together and helped eachother, the crime rate dropped to a history low and people loved eachother for the first time. it was the most incredible thing ive ever seen.

Britain..

..went into a similar state of shock when princess Diana died, the whole country came together and even though it was very sad it was a great time of helping your neighbour. Such a pity it doesnt last and we revert back to selfish idiots again afterwards.

Expecting thread break here :)

And again the media did a 180 degree turn.

Simply by dying, Diana changed from some strumpet rich kid frollicking with the playboy son of the Phoney Pharoah - to Queen of Hearts, loved by all.Shocked

as for the point of the thread

i agree that many(but far from all)americans have no idea of life beyong america

when i was there and someone in a bar asked about my accent...i said im from Scotland...to which the reply was

"oh yeah...Scotland in England"

as well as

"scotland...ive heard of that"

you cant judge all america by the actions of a few. i wanna go to scotland and see the castles and capture the loch ness monster. alot of morons hang out at bars. barsa nd pubs are way different. pubs are were people go to chat and hang out. bars are were people get drunk and try to have sex with the ladies. sad really the difference. WE KNOW ABOUT THINGS THAT HAPPEN OUTSIDE AMERICA.

For goodness sake

One moment all the tabloids are obsessing about Diana's life and how naughty she is. The next moment we can't get away from media guilt which slowley changed into endless cashing in.

It was a nightmare. What was needed to come together over. People die every day! What makes Diana so fucking special?

I don't think..

..it was a case of sadness for Diana(in my case anyway) More a state of shock at 'who' it happened to and the way it happened. The country was in a state of disbelief.
Personaly i think the royals are a joke but i digress.
