The accuracy of translation as the Bible has gone from language to language is a debatable issue. Plus there is possibility that modifications were made to the Bible when only priests had access to the book.

Not when there are manuscripts which pre-date Roman Catholicism.

The Bible is the most accurate, passed-down historical text known to humanity.

Yes, true, but noone knows what the texts really mean.

The accuracy of translation as the Bible has gone from language to language is a debatable issue

For people with such "extreme beliefs" it is actually funny to see that the bible is bugged beyond belief from the beginning to the end.
• What is meant by what is written there? ("Son of a carpenter" means actually "Philosopher")
• Is the translation correct? (In many cases there are gross inaccurancies, like translating "You shall not murder" as "You shall not kill")
• Was the translation altered on purpose (For example replacing both "God" and "Jesus" by "Lord" to push the doctrine of trinity)
• Is the overall meaning translated correctly? Just check IMO → Argh, Nostradamus' translations#26806 and judge for yourself.
• Are there no contradictions? Although all contradictions can be explained away, an unpleasant taste stays when 1 source says "2 persons" while the other says "1 person"
• Is the writing correct? (In some cases there are spelling errors that can aberrate the meaning)
• Is the scripture by the one or is it a fake (many Paulus letters are said to be complete fabrications)
• Is it actually written somewhere what the priest says? ("Abortion" is not mentioned once in the bible)
• How reliable are the sources? Paulus was a murderer and the other writers didn't witness Jesus with their own eyes. (The gospel was written 100+ years after Jesus). Don't forget that early Christians were thrown into the arena to be eaten. This is usually interpreted as "They died for their strong just belief" but you can also argue "They were freaking terrorists trying to subvert the country". Thus you are reading texts written by guys like like Usama bin Laden. A doubtful source for truth.

There could be no religion more ignorant to their sources than the Christian religion.
You can say anything you want about Muslims, but they freaking learn their Koran BY HEART while Christians HAVE EVEN FORBIDDEN TO READ IT.

Answer me Agent Zero: What is the name of your god. You don't even know. Answer me: How many meters did Jesus walk on water? You don't even know. What was the name of the torturer of Jesus? Has actually anyone in your circle of friends READ the bible?

So much to "The love of Christians for accuracy"

a long rebuttal to a long list of unknowlegable garbage

Knn... points 1, 7, and 8 don't even have to do with translation, so I will leave them out. No doubt you expected them to add validity to your point, by making the list appear longer.
knn:
In many cases there are gross inaccurancies, like translating "You shall not murder" as "You shall not kill")

Problems such as these are problems with translation of any text from one language to another.

And as for "gross inaccuracies," there are none. The Bible is over 99% accurate. An accuracy much higher than any other accepted historical text (e.g. the Iliad).
knn:
Is the overall meaning translated correctly?

You wouldn't believe the hours of toil and study put in to understanding the exact language of the time period, in order to grasp the meaning correctly. I happen to know a few Greek scholars who, I'm sure, could anwer any specific question you may have about a particular passage.
knn:
Was the translation altered on purpose

Because Christians are so concerned with accuracy, and compare many manuscripts, discrepencies like these are easily spotted and abandoned. In the King James Version, there is an added part of a verse dealing with the Trinity, which was probably added for understanding (or merely because a it was a marginal note). However, because those words do not appear in any of the Greek manuscripts, they are omitted from most, if not all other versions.

You will find some people who claim that the King James Version is the inspired word of God, just like you will find some people who say that Roman Catholicism is true Christianity despite the teachings of the Scriptures.
knn:
Is the writing correct? (In some cases there are spelling errors that can aberrate the meaning)

Spelling errors, despite being INCREDIBLY minute and sparse, are corrected by comparison of separate manuscripts.
knn:
Paulus was a murderer

Wrong. SAUL was a muderer. After Christ appeared to him and caused him to change his ways, he became Paul, and started his ministry.
knn:
They were freaking terrorists trying to subvert the country

They were eaten because they worshiped God above the emporer. They would be much more accurately compared to rebels who do what they know is right, despite the rulings of a cruel tyrant (like the Christians who housed persecuted Jews during Nazi rule).

I am thankful that the Pilgrims and other groups, who were persecuted for their religious beliefs, didn't merely submit to an oppresive government, and instead came to America to start a country based on Truth. Perhaps you think that religious persecution is a good thing. Wait, I already know you do, if you are for what today's society calls "separation of Church and State."
knn:
but they freaking learn their Koran BY HEART while Christians HAVE EVEN FORBIDDEN TO READ IT.

You just undermined your own point on nearly every other thread. Yes, during the reign of Roman Catholicism, people WERE forbidden to read the Bible. Thus, people had no problem with many of the wrong things the Roman Catholics did. It wasn't until a few men who actually studied the Bible felt obliged to stand up against the religious leaders, that these things were fixed. That which is wrong in Christian societies, is always fixed by looking inward at the true teachings of Christianity (not by secularization).
knn:
Has actually anyone in your circle of friends READ the bible?

Knn, please. Do not try to hold Agent accountable to a standard of diligence that you do not even hold YOURSELF accountable to. Have you READ the Constitution and the founding documents of your country? Have you read all the laws passed by your government. If not, you can't comment on any government system!

They are 100% ontopic since they have to do with "The Christian's love for accurate translations".

No, the original texts may be. But not the English translations.
stinkz:
You wouldn't believe the hours of toil and study put in to understanding the exact language of the time period, in order to grasp the meaning correctly.

You are again arguing on a THEORETICAL level which has nothing to do with reality. Just check the deviating translations that I mention in my Nostradamus post.
stinkz:
They were eaten because they worshiped God above the emporer.

Says who? Oh, they themselves. I wonder what Muslims will say about their "just war against America".
stinkz:

It's mere religion, stinkz. Roman Catholizism is as right (or wrong) as any other Christian -cism. Catholicism is a valid (and moreover the biggest) Christian movement.

What's next? Writing that god told you in your sleep that Catholicism is wrong? That god told you the "true teachings"?

Comparing your statement with another

stinkz:
Knn, please. Do not try to hold Agent accountable to a standard of diligence that you do not even hold YOURSELF accountable to. Have you READ the Constitution and the founding documents of your country? Have you read all the laws passed by your government.

You miss the point. I never posted that "All citizens of my country have a love for accuracy regarding the law". But you posted that "Christians are concerned with the accuracy of translation" which I proved to be wrong:
• Christians accept doubtful sources
• Christians accept doubtful translations
• Christians accept inserted fabrications
• Christians accept contradictions
• Christians accept doubful external sources (priests instead of the bible)
• Christians accept doubful interpretations

If I stated "All citizens of my country have a love for an accurate and fair law" and then someone else shows me that
• The law was written by terrorists and murderers
• The law's translation is grossly wrong
• Parts of the law have inserted by somone who wasn't even authorized
• The law is contradicting
• Politicians state that something is written when it's not
• The law is doubfully interpreted

then it's a counter-proof.

Accept it stinkz, Christians usually give a damn for the original Aramaic and Roman texts. They accept willingly what the local priest says.

Uff, yeah. And Osama bin Laden is a nice chap after he renames himself Opama bin Laden. Nono

Check out IMO → Cattelan Hitler praying and imagine Hitler wrote "Oh, I have changed so much" after 1946...

Paulus seems to be a criminal even AFTER he changed his name. Just remember that he was imprisoned for several years in several places even AFTER calling himself "Paulus".

He had to flee from Damascus because the king wanted to seize him.

Paul was prosecuted and beheaded.

You are free to believe what any terrorists says.

Problems such as these are problems with translation of any text from one language to another.

First you say it's an almost flawless translation and then you accept that it has errors like any other document that's been translated.
stinkz:
And as for "gross inaccuracies," there are none. The Bible is over 99% accurate. An accuracy much higher than any other accepted historical text (e.g. the Iliad).

You sure? Hmm...then please explain what are all of these:

1. Is the Earth round, flat or square? Compare Revelations 7:1 and 20:8 with Isaiah 40:22.

2. Can a son be older than his parents? read Genesis 11:12 and compare it with Luke 3:35-36.

3. Who was Jesus' grandfather? See Matthew 1:6 and Luke 3:31.

4. Where is Rachel's tomb located? see Genesis 35:19 and Samuel 10:2.

These are just a few I remembered off the top of my head.

Enough...

knn:
They are 100% ontopic since they have to do with "The Christian's love for accurate translations".

How does "is it written somewhere what the priest says?" have anything to do with accurate translations of the Bible. It doesn't. There is no connection.
knn:
But not the English translations.

The fact that there are multiple translations should tell you something about Christian concern for accuracy. Each translation takes a different amount of liberty in changing wording to fit meaning.
knn:
which I proved to be wrong:

I can find you homosexuals who claim to be Christian. I can find you "some" people who do anything. This is beside the point. The point is, it is because many, most, whatever... Christians have this concern, that the Bible is not only the most accurately passed-down, but the most accurately translated text in existance.
knn:
Christians usually give a damn for the original Aramaic and Roman texts.

This shows how little you know about Biblical texts. The original manuscripts were written in Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament). The latin translations (the ones I'm sure you were referring to) were the one's that King James Version was based off of, and it is considered to be one of the least accurate translations (though the margin of error is still EXTREMELY low).
knn:
remember that he was imprisoned for several years in several places

Do you know why? Probably not. I'll give you a hint: it WASN'T because of murder.
knn:
He had to flee from Damascus because the king wanted to seize him.

Mary and Joseph also fled from a tyrannical king. Do claim that Jesus is also a terrorist?
knn:
remember that he was imprisoned for several years in several places

You evidently believed Paul's words when he told you of his past sin. Why must you believe him in one instance, only to discredit him in others? It's sad to think that you may have given more validity to Paul's teachings had he been a liar, and covered up the first part of his life. He instead openly admits and repents of it, and proceeds to help those he persecuted. And for this, you look down on him.

Onto Echelon...

Echelon, almost nothing you posted has anything to do with the translation, or recorded accuracy of the Bible. I am not surprised. No one, not even knn, debates the accuracy with which the Bible was passed down for ages. And, as for the translation, more care has been devoted to accurate translation of this book, than any other book in history.

These are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed.

Both you and knn would love to delve into Biblical meanings and what-not, but you are unprepared. Let's stick to the topic. The topic is about accurate translation. If any book has been accurately translated, the Bible is it.
Echelon:
These are just a few I remembered off the top of my head.

The topic is about accurate translation. If any book has been accurately translated, the Bible is it.

What makes you say that? Why so many scholars have found errors in translation? Are you fluent on ancient languages like aramaic, greek, or latin well enough to prove this for yourself?
