Man, I didn't have very high expectations when I listened to this album at first, but whoa...talk about surprises. American Idiot is not really the Green Day you've grown accustomed to...it's Green Day pushing the critics' limits, experimenting with their sound, and above all, maturing. And it sounds fucking great. For everyone interested, give the song Jesus Of Suburbia a listen...fantastic stuff. posted by northern_james |

So when is this album reaching the UK? The one they've released here is a bunch of boring songs which sound just like every other one they've ever done. The singles are the worst. American Idiot sounds like it took about 5 seconds to write and Boulevard Of Broken Dreams sounds like about a million songs I've heard before. If you want some good recent punk music, check out Hot Hot Heat. At least they don't leave me wondering which band I'm listening to. Green Day are like The Hives. Great music, great performance, but once you've heard one album you've heard them all. posted by fatpie42 |

...I respect you and all, but what the hell were you on when you listened to the album? Quote: Green Day are like The Hives. Great music, great performance, but once you've heard one album you've heard them all. Are you joking? This album sounds quite a good deal different than anything Green Day has issued, in terms of both song structures and lyrics. The music itself is a bit similar to a mix of Warning and Nimrod, but with its own touch. I really think you need to give this album another fair listen. posted by northern_james |

This album was Green Day's lowest point. They are completely out of talent, so they resorted to spreading political propaganda. They should stick to writing about what they know (masturbation, smoking, etc...), and leave politics to those educated enough to have their own opinion. posted by stinkz |

It's not their best but it's nowhere near as bad as your saying, St'Jimmy and Holiday are pretty cool. Nimrod is way better though. posted by Crossfade |

Well, the album didn't blow my mind, but it was good and Green Day recently put on one of the best concerts I have been to. stinkz and fatpie are in the minority on this album. Stinkz, do you not understand the concept of punk at all? Sure, Green Day is against GW Bush, but punk is pretty much always against the establishment, against the conservative mentality. But I end there. I have already given into stinkz standard inflammatory attack. posted by volonteshiva |

I have nothing against the lyrics to the song American Idiot, but the tune just sounds too old and familar. I hope Stinkz does not dislike Green Day SOLELY on the basis of their anti-establishment stance. I wonder what he thinks of Radiohead? posted by fatpie42 |

fatpie42: I hope Stinkz does not dislike Green Day SOLELY on the basis of their anti-establishment stance. I wonder what he thinks of Radiohead? I actually to enjoy listening to Radiohead and Chumbawumba every now and then. My friend had a couple of their cds. They are both anti-establishement, but also happen to write decent sounding music, occasionally. However, I wouldn't buy a cd by either of them. Greenday had a cool sound, but not only is it getting old, their songs are becoming more monotonous. The fact that they turned to politics is merely another downside. posted by stinkz |

That you have a pic of MJK in your avatar, so obviously you have some musical taste, but yet you enjoy trash such as Green Day. posted by Evil Elvis Bush |
