So, years back I got ahold of a book called Rendezvous With Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. I had read other books by Clarke, and liked his style, and it turned out that Rendezvous With Rama was even better. As it turned out, there was a sequel, Rama II, and then another, Garden of Rama. The trilogy became my favorite, and remains my favorite today. A short time later, Rama Revealed came out. It was the only time I have ever checked with a bookstore repeatedly to get it as soon as it came out. There was even a Rama video game back in 1997 These four books making the Rama quadrilogy are the best. Volonteshiva sent me a link many years ago about how Morgan Freeman bought the rights to the book to make the movie version. I was floored and had never been so excited about a movie release in my life. Years passed. The information about the movie on the internet seemed to disappear and after a while, stopped getting updated. The official site, listed below, owned by Revelations Entertainment, Morgan's company, has not been updated in years. It promises that the movie would be the most CGI intensive piece of eye-candy ever made, with agreements with Intel, David Fincher, and Clarke himself. There are quotes that say the movie will come out for Christmas 2003, then again sometime in 2004, but I can't seem to shake the feeling that we are already in 2005, and I'm getting pissed... With Revelations Entertainment owning the rights, Morgan has all but ensured that no one else on the planet will ever make the movie version except for him. Since he has several movie projects going on at any given time, it's obvious that he has no intention of making the movie anytime soon. Make the damn movie already! Update your site and tell me what the plans are! If he's changed his mind, the least he could do is change the site to say: "I'm a fucking retard, I'm not making the movie, so don't get your hopes up", or at least sell the rights to someone else. Does anyone else out there care? Does anyone else want to see the Rendezvous with Rama movie as much as I do? The tiger ate my family Well, of course I care, since I started this whole circus ride years ago. Basically Morgan Freeman is a douche on this project. They could have had a team working on the cinematics for years while they search for the right actors and whatnot. He can bitch all he wants about doing it right, but you STILL HAVE TO MAKE AN ATTEMPT! I like Morgan Freeman's work, but he is really frustrating on this project. The Rama series is much better than Arthur C. Clarke's other famous series, 2001. Sadly, the Rama series was also one of the last non-fiction books GuyFromOH has read! you bastard! posted by volonteshiva |

Glad to see someone shares my frustration. I've been watching this for the past four years, waiting for them to make some progress. Rama is probably my favorite SF book, though I didn't like the sequels as much, mostly because of the overly heavy-handed social commentary. Anyway, as for movies, at least -Ben Sibelman posted by scifiben |

Morgan Freeman is a fine actor in my opinion, but I think you're correct. He should do something with it and let us know what that is. The RAMA series is one of the best stories I have read in a very long time and I would love too see it on the big screen. Please Mr. Freeman, don't hold this up, and give us some details. posted by AnotherGuyfromOH |

Your not alone! I have read all four of the books several times and have been waiting for the movie. They say that they want to do it properly and have got Intel on board to do the graphics, BUT IT SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS LONG. Make the movie someone. Thanks posted by gdeane |

I too have been googling this "movie" for the past two years and cannot find any current information on why it's not in production. I would imagine there would be tons of CGI given the content... Alas, the book is always better anyway, right? I should read it again and use my imagination, b/c no movie is coming that I can see posted by ehs |

Why not make a 100% CGI version? Something like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? Could a bunch of enthusists pull it off? posted by jonr |
