ok, so six months ago i parked my car at work. came out later to find a huge puddle underneath it. i took it to a local repair garage (one that i have given my business to several times) and they told me it was a blown head cylinder gasket something or another. now, six months later, i come to work, park my car...go out and find the SAME giant puddle underneath my car. took it to the same shop, called them later on to see what they found, and guess what? they start to tell me the SAME THING is wrong with it. i was like, oh really? hmm, that's strange...um, check yor records on that car because...that's the same thing you guys fixed six months ago! the guys starts looking and tells me, oh yeah, youre right, well we will take another look, we probably just overlooked something... so, im thinking, what if i didn't remember that? is that really the problem? or were they just saying something? and IF that is the problem, how good of a job did they do before in fixing it? (not good enough if it is still not working)...how many people has this garage screwed over? they were recommended to me by word of mouth and i trusted them. im still waiting for them to call me to tell me what (else) is "wrong" with my car. i don't think i am going to believe them no matter what they say. i just hate repair shops, don't know how trustworthy any of them are. my father and step father are both extremely good mechanics, but they don't have the time to look at and fix my car. and i don't want to try and drive it so far and run the risk of causing something major happening on the drive... i don't know, im just pissed at them. maybe it was a one time thing, and they really did overlook something...but something is telling me that isnt the case... anyone else had a bad experience with a garage? posted by allone |

Why not learn from them so that you can repair most basic things yourself, like bad gaskets? Or perhaps better, take some classes at a local college on car repair. This way you will get the full treatment and walk away with a very valuable skill. posted by volonteshiva |

yeah, i can do some minor repairs for myself. major things, i can rely on my fathers, and i help them and learn along the way. but this problem, i just didn't have time to try and take it to either of my two dads, and they don't have the time to work on my car on a problem as big as this. it was originally a $1200 job back six months ago, that is why i am so pissed. just got word from them again, they are saying that i have been driving my car while its overheating...um, no i haven't. the problem is a blown head gasket. they "replaced" it six months ago and told me vocally that it would last another five years, but on paper their work only has a 90-day warranty. they did not fix it right six months ago and will not admit to it. and because it has been over 90 days, they will not fix it without me paying another 1200. what kind of place only promises that their work will only last for three months? especially something that costs that much? i simply cannot afford to pay another 1200 for something that i am not even sure will last more than another six months. honestly, i cant afford to pay 1200 for anything right now. it has been a great car and i have not once had any problems from it until 6 months ago, when it had 110,000 miles on it. (its a 99 jeep cherokee sport) i love my car, and have loved every car i have owned. (cars are like people to me i would trade my car in for a new one, but i don't think i can get a lot for it, if i drive it into a dealership and park it and within 5 minutes it has a giant puddle underneath it from all the water leaking out. i don't know, im frustrated, angry, upset, pissed off...i need a cigarette posted by allone |

if anyone cares or has read this. the shop will not back down from their claims, they say that i have been driving my car while it is overheating...totally false. they will not admit that they did a half ass job on my car in the first place which is why it is having the same exact problem six months later. anyway, my choices were, take it to another shop, pay the full price for it to be fixed (another $1200) or leave it there and let them fix it...again, and HOPE that they fixed it right this time (after a lot of "talking" they offered to do the job at 50% of the price, labor and parts...hmm, makes you think doesnt it?) so, i have decided to let them fix it, never take a car there again, spread the word around this town (very small town, word travels FAST, and that is their only source of advertisment) and put it up for sale when it comes out. anyone interested in a 99 jeep cherokee? what gets me is that, some co-workers have gone their before and had problems from them screwing up their cars, not doing a good job, blah blah blah...but nobody bothered to tell me anything until now. oh well. posted by allone |

ok, today, i got my car back! yay! friday i went in to pick it up because they told me it was ready. so i went in, they gave me the bill...and i see that it is $300 higher than what they quoted me. they were going to do the work for 50% off, which they said would be $600. anyway, they said that they found some other problems and went ahead and fixed them for me...even though they were never told to do so. i argued and told them that i never authorized those repairs and i shouldnt have to pay for them. they began to tell me how i called them to tell them to do the other repairs! um, what!-? they had an employee come up front to say that he talked to me over the phone and i authorized other repairs. i told them that was a flat out lie. they wouldnt bend. seeing that i would get absolutly nowhere with them, i decided to go ahead and pay. i gave them a credit card, they ran it, it accepted, i signed, got my copy, and left the building. i went to my car, got in to drive away, but couldnt! the manager had come out and was standing behind my car! then out comes the owner. i roll down my window to ask what the problem is, he tells me that he needs my keys back because he is not releasing my car to me. i told him that i already paid for their "work" and would like to leave...he reaches into my car to take the keys out of the ingition! i call the cops on my cell. they show up and make the owner go inside while i explain what happened, i told them how i paid and he is not releasing my car to me, how he did extra repairs to tack on money when they werent authorized...everything...then the owner comes out with a sheet of paper and tells me, i decided that i am not going to accept your credit card, i reversed the charges, i am only going to accept cash from you. what a jackass. now i didn't have the cash on me because my bank was closed and i don't have an atm card for the account that has my money in it. they wouldnt take a check either. the cops told me that they couldnt do anything about it...but they DID let me know that legally i could have driven off, because i had already paid, signed and left the building before they decided not to accept my credit card. i should have done that. anyway, i went this morning to get my car. paid in cash, got it back...drove away...two blocks later...it DIES! it was out of gas. now i never let my car get that low...ever. it had a little less than half of a tank when i took it in. now, i know they test drove it to make sure that it was fine...but shit! have the decency to put gas BACK into my car when you are done...but something tells me that they sucked it out so that would happen...jackasses. so i pushed my car off of the road, walked to the nearest gas station, purchased a gas can and some gas, went back to my car and got it started and headed to work. i called the shop and asked them if they realized that they gave me my car back with no gas in it. their excuse, we used it while testing it and are not responsible for putting any back in, its up to me to do that. anyway, im just glad my car is out of there...im not sure how long their work will last this time, since i am positive that they didn't put a strong effort into fixing it. im sad, because i loved my car...but i have to sell her. thus ends my repair shop mini-drama series. thank you for watching. next episode...allone gets a new car! what will it be, stay tuned to find out! posted by allone |

Holy, fucking douche man! I can't believe what kind of fucking texas hicks you are dealing with! They must have seen something in your they didn't like at all! I love how some business is an asshole and then they claim they don't want to work with you because you are an asshole. Awesome! It is awesome that you seemed to keep such a level head and didn't go into an insane Hulk rage! I nod to you zen master. Now, with your new car, have you considered getting future work done at a dealer? I am sure there are dealer horror stories out there, but I believe they are generally going to be better. Any agreement there?i posted by volonteshiva |

yeah, the people here suck! well, not all. but there are some really stupid people here! it was hard to keep cool. there were times when i really REALLY wanted to let it all out and just go wild...but that never solves anything and just makes things worse. i am satisfied in my mind just knowing that they will get whats coming to them...i just wish i was there to see it. i had some work done at a dealer before, when i had a transmission replaced. and the dealers all seem to have the certified, satisfaction promise, and they are easier to deal with if there is a problem. because you can always go to someone higher than who you are talking to, you know? so yeah, i agree that the dealer is the better choice to take a car. with this place the highest i could go was to the owner, who didn't seem to care a lot. i also just noticed that the invoice for my car says that the mileage on it when it left their shop is 109,000...that's funny, because its a flat out lie. my car has 120,000 miles on it. and i noticed at lunch that the engine does not sound like it should. so i expect something else to go wrong, then when i take it in, they will say, sorry its over 10,000 miles, we cant cover it. that's why tomorrow i am going to call them again just to let them know that it had 120,000 miles on it when it left, and there is NO WAY i put 11,000 miles on my car in less than a day. (even though i don't plan on having my car very much longer at all, i just want to call so that they know im not stupid and i saw their "mistake" on the invoice) i have never been soo upset/angry/enraged about something or someone ever before in my life. it took almost ALL of me just to keep cool. i hope i never have to go through something like that again, or anyone else i know! posted by allone |

im not filing a suit or anything, im just a firm believer in "you get whats coming to you" kind of thing. i didn't take my jeep to the dealer because: when i first noticed a giant puddle of water underneath my enginge i took it to the chrysler dealer here, they did a real quick look at it and told me that they were backed up and it might be at least a week before i got it back. i decided to look around to see if anyone else could do it faster, that's when i was referred to the other place. i took it there and they said they could get the parts in a day and have it out in a couple of days. at the time, it was worth more to me to have it back quicker. the repair was more than either one of my dads had time to take care of. but not something as large as a transmission repair, it seemed simple enough for a repair shop to handle. i was wrong. i learned my lesson. actually, i think i have decided on what i want next. i have had my eye on a miata that came in to a ford dealership here. its a 99, the same model year as my jeep. but the main difference is, the miata has only 28,000 miles on it...and my jeep: 120,000. whoever owned the mitata before they traded it in treated it like a "sunday drive" type car. its in immaculate condition. very clean, it was babied, which i treat all my cars like that. its black with a tan top, and tan leather interior. the only down side...the things is TINY. i got used to being able to haul stuff if i needed to. which wasnt very often, but its nice to have just in case. but i test drove the miata already and i liked how it felt. the drive felt good and the ergonomics fit well around me. if i was any taller though, i would have to look at something else. my girlfriend doesnt like it and thinks that i will die in some horrible car accident. but, this is one thing that is my decision and my money that is going to be spent on it. funny, she says that my jeep is safer...but before she hated that because "SUV's are top heavy, youre going to flip it and die!" i have been looking into miatas online, and have liked what i have seen. i have always been the sporty, small car type in the first place. i only had my cherokee because i got a great deal on it. it was a company car. the company just wanted to get rid of it since they updated their lot. i picked it up for $6,000 four years ago. it has been a really good car, never had any problems with it at all...until here recently. the thing has taken me to New Orleans, Columbus, OH and back, a ton of places in Texas, and i go to Louisiana about every weekend...everywhere. im gunna miss it. good times, good times. posted by allone |

oh man, she would kill me! she can be crazy, but so can i...not like that though, im cool crazy. and yeah, she doesnt like that it uses a lot of gas...but she leaves that alone since her car cant even pass an emissions test! (they do those in dallas, where she is from, she couldnt pass it, so she brought her car to little old nacogdoches to get it inspected...we ain't got no emissions standard here) she just kinda forgets that part and doesnt mention it. posted by allone |

haha, so true! and not just any kind of truck either, the bigger the better! i swear there are trucks on the road here that could qualify as monster trucks! if i had a miata i could drive under them! yeah, i would probably get laughed at, i could just bring up how how $10 of gas i could go about 100 times farther than them. there is a mazda dealer in another town about 20 minutes away. i would take it there. the sticker price on the miata is $11,000, about what it is worth. im just impressed by the condition it is in and the low mileage. i think i am going to offer them $7500 + my jeep. if they wont accept that, i can find something else. if there is one out there that is that nice, there has to be another...i just have to be patient and look for it. posted by allone |
