allone: another really good one that has been stuck in my head is:
'I Feel You' by Schiller mit (featuring) Heppner its more of what you might call a "trance" track, more melow, not as up-beat as the other, but still an awesome track, it reminds me of depeche mode for some reason (no, its not a cover of depeche mode's "i feel you") the guy on vocals may sound familiar to anyone who has ever listened to Wolfsheim before...since its the same guy. Damn! you really know your shit! It's good to know that you haven't given up on Trance...lol Also, you read my mind because Paul van Dyk closed his set last November (when I saw him live) with this track and I can't keep it off my mind ever since. I've been trying to get his remix of it since that's the version he played but I could only get the original. Any clues? posted by Echelon |

lucky! ive yet to see him play...houston gets some big name DJs but i can never find the time to get down there for the shows. sucks... as far as PVD's remix of that song, i did just a google search for it and came up with nothing. i found a lot of pages mention his remix of Marco V's 'I Feel You' but not Schiller's. i did find this site that has a playlist of his that lists Schiller's 'I Feel You': but doesnt mention which remix...if it is a remix that isnt readily available its probably a white label remix...which are really hard to get your hands on. i usually buy my vinyl online at dancerecords.com but on occasion if it is a hard track to find i can usually find it at htfr.com, it just costs more...but if its that hard to find, its worth it...you probably know what im talking about but to stay on topic...as long as were talking about Paul Van Dyk I would like to suggest his song, "We Are Alive"...ive always liked this song. whenever i play it at a gig/party i usually play the 'vandit vocal mix' but lately ive started really enjoying the 'DJ Icey's Arctic Bass Mix'...its more break beat and the crowd usually reacts better to that type of beat around here. posted by allone |

oh, while im thinking about it, a really good remix of Coldplay: Clocks its simply called '12" mix' i play this at gigs a lot and people really love it! it was released on vinyl but very limited, only 1000 were pressed...well, maybe they pressed more later on, but the original was a light blue colored record in a clear sleeve that said "limited edition no. __ of 1000" and "clocks001". it had the 12" mix and the radio edit looks like this: [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by allone |

Switch records? But seriously, I like Aphex Twin and all, but he actually is a keyboardist on a lot of songs...most of the electronic music I've heard at clubs is not very "performable" if you will. posted by MindSlavery Florida |

That can be done with just about any "techno" song...just have a couple people sitting at some MIDI keyboards while on stage...but that is boring. posted by allone |

I like the Smiths song "Stretch Out and Wait." It kind of a simple song for them, but it has this mysterious line in the the lyrics: "Two icy-cold hands conducting the way It's the Eskimo blood in my veins... " I like that as poetry; something about the imagery is very vivid to me. Other good Smiths songs are "Cemetry Gates" , which is an upbeat song about death and plagiarism, and "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" , which has a really dark, intriguing guitar line with funny repetitive lyrics: "Some girls are bigger than others/Some girls are bigger than others/Some girls are bigger than others/Some girls' mothers are bigger than other girls' mothers" Some people don't like the Smiths because of the singer, Morrissey, being so effeminate or whatever, but really Morrissey and his somewhat gay lyrics are only a small part of the Smiths; the guitarist, Johnny Marr, wrote most of the music, and he was an undeniably great composer. To me, the Morrissey/Marr songwriting team is the most underrated in pop music history, followed by Osbourne/Iommi from Black Sabbath. Too bad in both of those cases the singer had a huge ego that got out of control after the band broke up. I'd like to see an Iommi/Marr guitar album. As odd a pairing as it may seem, I think those guys are kindred spirits. posted by MindSlavery Florida |

Ministry recently released a forgettable remixes album called "Rantology," but it has a new-release song on there called "The Great Satan." It starts off with a sample of Condi Rice at the 9/11 hearings answering a question about the Presidential Daily Bulletin that warned about the whole attack before it happened and that Bush totally ignored. She says, "I believe the title was, 'bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States'..." And then the Ministry guitars and drums kick in, it's cool. But Condi sounds like such a dumbass when you hear it over the speakers, she's totally flustered and losing her shit but trying to hold it together. If you want to hear the track, try LimeWire, because that CD is not worth buying. If you want to buy a Ministry greatest hits comp, buy the "Greatest Fits" CD. That's remastered and has all their most popular songs plus a few rare ones. posted by MindSlavery Florida |

I recently bought two greatest hits albums by female songwriters: Joni Mitchell's "Hits" and Tori Amos's "Tales of a Librarian." Both are amazing. I am now convinced that it is physically impossible to be any more musically talented than Tori and Joni. If Tori and Joni were genetically fused into a single body, it would be a musical deity and might conceivably destroy patriarchal society as we know it. The pope, the former members of N*Sync, the US soldiers in combat, and all the head coaches of the NFL had better be glad that they remain two separate people. posted by MindSlavery Florida |

At the moment I'm listening to Cuiden A Los Ninos by Brujeria, Spanish sung metal with Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory) on guitars. I've been in a metal mood lately, the stuff I recommend Strapping Young Lad - Possessions Strapping Young Lad - Force Fed Strapping Young Lad - Far Beyond Metal Strapping Young Lad - Landscape Devin Townsend has great melodies, and contrasts them well with his "wall of sound" technique. Steve Vai - Sisters Great chordal-based piece by Steve Vai. I got Sepulturas latest album Dante XXI, and it's pretty good. Not brilliant, but it has its moments. I also got Disintergrate by Zyklon and the Black Waltz by Kamlah. I have to say I'm impressed by Disentergrate, Zyklon just sounds so tight, there's not a moment of sloppy playing. Black Waltz on the other hand just sounds like a modern version of Iron Maiden with growled vocals, so nothing brilliant but fun and an alright listen. I recommend anything off Joe Satrianis "Engines of Creation." Really easy listening, it's his sort of synth album. The songs sound awesome played live on just guitars, but the albums good for sort of easy listening I guess. I'm also happy with his latest album, "Super Colossal", not brilliant but some awesome tracks and cool bluesy moments. And I love the last track for its novelty, a huge crowd clapping and he'll play a phrase and then the crowd will sing it heh. I got Butchered At Birth by Cannibal Corpse, incredibly heavy. Chris Barnes' vocals are amazing, I prefer him to the new Cannibal Corpse singer. Meanwhile I've got some Carlos Santana and Buena Vista Social Club albums I havnt gotten around to listening to yet. I think with Tenacious D you really need to get there album, it works great on a whole and the songs really are greatly written. Kyle Gass is a great guitarist. And seperate from the album, their song Sasquatch is pretty cool too. You know Geezer Butler wrote a good portion of the Black Sabbath lyrics right holy? I'm not sure how much contribution Ozzy had. posted by hungarian kid |

hungarian kid: You know Geezer Butler wrote a good portion of the Black Sabbath lyrics right holy? I'm not sure how much contribution Ozzy had. Didn't know that HK. Ya learn sumthin' new everyday! The amazing thing to me about Sabbath is reading about how Iommi got the tips of his fretting hand's fingers cut off in a factory, and he had to make plastic fingertips out of soap bottles just to fret the notes. But then again, Beethoven was deaf for most of his career, so maybe Tony didn't have it so bad. Still must've sucked though. Just got the Sabbath box set with all eight of their albums with Ozzy remastered and I love it...I've been listening to them for decades and I had never heard some of the later songs. posted by MindSlavery Florida |

Yeah the Ozzy stuff really was just awesome, so much strong metal and that sort of 'psychadelic' feel. Their first album really was freakin cool, the title track is amazing, the only similiar sorta feel from a song of that era I can think of came from Robin Trower. His instrumentals were pretty cool, really well written guitar melodies. The later stuff with other singers like Dio was okay but it had more of an 'Iron Maiden/General 80's metal' feel, not to say Iommis playing was lacking, I think he sort of changed it with singers. I really want to get his solo album, I got a song off it and his playing is still superb. What I find kinda interesting and cool is that because of his two finger tips missing, he had to use thin gauge strings but he also tuned them down to make it easier to play. So it's sort of an accident that down-tuned guitars came into being. A big part of metal heh. Although I think Iommi would've downtuned his guitar regardless. James Shaffer of Korn had a similiar accident and learnt guitar to rehabilitate his finger, also another big fan of downtuned guitars. Today I recommend Aphex Twin - Cliffs Really cool ambience song. posted by hungarian kid |
