Another good song by Aphex is "Windowlicker." It's got a really sexy kind of feel, with lots of samples of girls moaning erotically...

Lol I'm assuming you've seen the music video for it?

Actually I haven't seen the video. I don't think I've ever seen an Aphex Twin video on TV or anywhere.

Ha check 'em out, they're incredibly disturbing but cool. He puts a morphed smiling version of his own face on a lot of things in most of them, e.g. midgets or some of the women in the Windowlicker video. Heh I havn't watched them all in a while so I'm a little vague on exact details.

Hey holy have you heard anything by the pogues they sort of remind me of Bell and Sebastion only irish I'd recommend.

The Pogues- Fairytale of New York
The Pogues- Haunted (this was on the Sid and Nancy sountrack though after watching the movie multiple times i still cant find it)

Also if your into the clash check out "Londons Burning a clash tribute" its clash songs song by other bands i really like it.

The Violent Femmes are really really good but i wont list too many songs since i just got into them.

Violent Femmes- Blister in the Sun
Violent Femmes- American Music
Violent Femmes- Kiss off
Violent Femmes- Add it up

I Don't really know how to describe them except i get reminded slightly of new order...mabye the singers voice?

Then i have some personnel favourites but these bands arent known for their musical competence so unless your into 70's punk bands like the sex pistols or the clash you probably wont think any of this i any good.

Sid Vicious- I wanna be your dog (Sid was a hopeless musician but he had an interesting voice and hi covers are so laughably bad i find myself drawn to them) (on a side note the original version "Iggy pop- I wanna be your dog" is good as well)

Sid Vicious- My Way (perhaps his only realy musical contribution try to snag the video of it its cool)

The Sex Pistols- EMI
The Sex Pistols- Pretty Vacant

Belle and Sebastion- Sleep the clock around is worth a listen.

The entire Sid and Nancy sountrack is good but these songs were my favourites.

The Pogues- Haunted
Joe Strummer- Love Kills
Joe Strummer- Dum dum Club
The Circle Jerks- Love Kills
Gary Oldman- My Way
Gary Oldman- I wanna be your dog (Gary oldman was the actor who played sid Vicious and his music actually sounds better not really good but better then the Vicious versions)

New York Dolls- Jet Boy (The New york Dolls were the first band malcolm mclaren managed before the sec pistols and thy were pretty good)

Minor Threat- Good Guys don't wear white

Dead Kennedys- California Ubber Alles
Dead Kennedys- Kill the poor
Dead Kennedys- MTV get off the air
Dead Kennedys- Soup is Good food
Dead Kennedys- Chemical Warfare

The Smiths- The boys with the thorn in his side

Pogue Mahone

Interesting that you post this because I'm travelling to Ireland in May. The Pogues were actually one of the first bands I ever listened to intentionally - specifically their album Peace and Love . That album has a song called "White City" that's quite good, and I remember watching them perform it live on SNL in 1990. That was the height of their fame and it wasn't long after that that the main singer and best songwriter, Shane MacGowan, left the band.
Kupov:
The Pogues- Fairytale of New York

This is another good one. They play it on our local college radio station at Christmastime a lot.

Haven't heard this one; I'll give it a listen.

Just a little Pogues trivia: their original band name was Pogue Mahone, which is an Irish way of saying "Kiss my ass." White laugh

BTW, I sent you an email to the address I got from your tblog Kup. I have a new blog up and I sent you the URL.

Hope all is well with you.

Radio Songs

About the only songs I like that are played frequently on commercial radio are Toto's "Africa" and Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." Both have great melodies and lyrics that create images in my mind. Toto also did some of the soundtrack to one of my favorite films, David Lynch's Dune .

Oh yes, and I like Hilary Duff's "Beat of My Heart."

LOL so sue me.

Yes, Virginia

The Dresden Dolls' new album Yes, Virginia is beautiful.

Best songs are "Backstabber" for melody and "Sing" for lyrics.

Definitely an improvement over their first album, which I thought was kind of uneven.

I actually prefer their last album, I honestly couldn't sit through their new album the first time around since it was so different, in a bad way heh. I havn't really given it much listen since then.

At the moment I'm listening to Remission by Mastodon, half because it's novel to have a metal band based on prehistoric subjects rather than fantasy, plus they've got great instrumental sections in their music. Vocals aren't that prominent in it, which works well enough, it all goes very well into the background. Elephant Man is a greater part of the album, ha and I love the sample of the T-Rex scream from Jurassic Park at the start of Crusher Destroyer. The music has a very 'progressive' feel to it, the drum rhythms get pretty complex in bits but the guitars are generally solid.

Got Probot, the metal album Dave Grohl put together with musicians like Lemmy, Jack Black, Max Cavalera, King Diamond and a bunch of others. Pretty good, Grohl really does have a nack for making good music, not really brilliant but good enough. The song with Jack Black (I am the Warlock) is great heh, just for the typical Jack Black singing, there's not a bad track on the album. Definitely worth getting, even if just for the metal novelty.

Got Tool's new album, 10'000 Days, it's pretty alright, not their best album.

Heh watched the Demon Days live dvd, that fat funking cockney shit-head ruins Dare on it, and the kids in Dirty Harry are sort of hard to bare with, but the rest of it's alright. Damon stays at the back on the piano as just a silhouette for most of it.

I've been listening to Deftones selftitled album and Teamsleeps selftitled album a lot lately, both very easy listening, very good for my stressed mind heh. Deftone's s/t album really is their best, it has most of my favourites on their, and it works really atmoshperically well, dark and melodious. Battle-Axe a prime example of this.

Teamsleep is just easy listening all round with some great melodies, I really like the guest singer from Goblin Cock, my only real problem with it is the female singer on Tomb of Liegia which has taken a while to get used to. She's also on King Diamond, I heard the demo of this song which is a lot better than the album version, being without the female singer and being able to hear the instrument parts a lot easier, which really make it a much better song.
Most tracks on the album are great anyway, it fits together very well, Delorian works as a great instrumental interlude, Atarxia works great as an opener for it, Ever and Our Ride to the Rectory are the most stand-out tracks but not neccessarily the best. Each track works by its self, all are soft and great listening, but the album on a whole works great.

they're sort of an obvious send up of some metal bands, but it works and they sound pretty alright.

Electronica

Glad you like Electronica, but you should explore a little more than Tiesto and Oakenfold's hits.
Try downloading sets from Deep Dish, Mauro Picotto, Ferry Corsten & Marco V, you'll be blown away.

I recommend the following Electronica songs for you:

Tiesto - Suburban Train
Santiago Nino - Believe (Max Graham Sidechained Remix)
Paul van Dyk - Wir sind Wir
Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
Ava Mea - In The End
Coca & Villa - La Noche
David Forbes - Answers
Dogzilla - Your Eyes
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Tiesto Remix)
Delerium - Silence (Tiesto Mix)

A good mix of guitar melodies and electronica is Joe Satriani's 'Engines of Creations', easily one of my favourite albums at the moment.
It's basically Satriani with synth and I guess what you'd call 'dance beats,' either way it's just too funking a cool of an album. I reckon you'd like it Echelon.
It's all mixed together so well.
