So naturally I wonder why you call the American language "English". Whenever I see an American movie where an American actor (or actress) says "Do you speak English?" I feel like screaming at them - but YOU don't speak English EITHER! Anyway, yeah I'm a southern Brit btw. The way it works (as anomaly would probably confirm) is that northerners call southers "Southern Fairies". While, southerners call northerners "Northern Monkeys". I am from New Jersey but i actually like the Anglicized spellings better, glamour over glamor, colour over color, recognise over recognize, etc i mean, they invented the language so i think the UK spelling is better posted by FrogTrain |

Most countries which speak English do so because they were once owned by Britain. This includes the US. Anyway, any Eddie Izzard fans here will have heard the sketch where he says: You say "erbs" and we say "herbs" because there's a fucking H in it. However, you spell through as "t h r u" and that's better, because our spelling is blatantly intended to allow people to cheat at scrabble. (anyone remember this line later on?): "And a q and a p and a z. Look it's a word in scrabble worth 380 points!" posted by fatpie42 |

fatpie42: However, you spell through as "t h r u" and that's better By the way, we spell it "through" also, you'll only see "thru" on restaurants with drive-thru's because the signs would be too large if they had to spell the whole thing out posted by GuyFromOH |
