Just pondering over this vehicle. Wanted to get some IMO opinions. It is successor to the Toyota Celica line. Toyota has pretty much become your parent's vehicle line, so they started the Scion brand/subcompany to cater to the young-uns. Opinions are up and down over the Scion xA and xB but everyone I have talked to/read a review from seem to like the tC. So, thoughts? like? hate? One gripe I have is that the $1000 ground effects kit is too subtle/distinguishable to be worth that much... Thoughts? Front Ground Effects view: posted by volonteshiva |

V, are you in the market for a new car? i was actually looking at one of these when i was searching for a new car. i like em. they look pretty neat and arent to expensive. for some reason certain parts of the styling kinda remind me of a BMW. if i remember right, edmunds rates them at 9.4, and they get something like 22/29 mpg about the ground effects, i would hold off if you don't like em.if you want something more aggresive go for this (pic): that's the april 05 edition of super street, i looked through it a couple days ago at a book store, if you have a chance browse through it, its pretty cool. whatever you do, though, if you get one don't paint it lime green. allone: V, are you in the market for a new car? Yes. Also looking at the Mazda 3i. It's hard to beat the stock dual moonroofs in the tC though. allone: if i remember right, edmunds rates them at 9.4, and they get something like 22/29 mpg Thumb Up Yeah, that's not bad, but I am actually disappointed that it isn't higher. Today it's either you get 40+ MPG and 90HP or you get 160+HP and <25 MPG. Why in the hell can't they make a car with both that doesn't cost $25K+? I know combustion engines are a balance, but fuck already! My '92 car gets the same MPG as most '05 vehicles. That is ridiculous. allone: about the ground effects, i would hold off if you don't like em.if you want something more aggresive go for this (pic): It's not that I don't like it, it's that there isn't enough of a difference btw the stock body kit and the ground effects kit to warrant spending $1000 for it. allone: that's the april 05 edition of super street, i looked through it a couple days ago at a book store, if you have a chance browse through it, its pretty cool. whatever you do, though, if you get one don't paint it lime green. Yeah, I wouldn't want "that" much of an attention grabber unless I was building a show-car. posted by volonteshiva |

between the mazda 3 and the tC, i would go with the tC. but that's just me. i like the looks better and i don't really need four doors. even though the four doors would probably come in handy and be more practical, meh. i haven't seen may tC's on the road around here, they grab attention, i remember when i first saw one, it was in a magazine, i really liked it...then i saw one on the road and i was like, what was that? had to do a double take. sunroofs are really nice, i always wanted a car with a sunroof, never had one...and the tC's sunroof is huge! i likey. about the ground effects, i wouldnt get them. they look just a little bit different than stock so there isnt that much difference, but to me...since i don't have a lot of money to play with, i cant see myself spending an extra 1000 on something that i don't really need, or serves no purpose. if they were cheaper, say around 400 at most i would consider it more. on the miata i just bought, it has the factory ground effects on it, they look very nice. i don't know what the cost was originally but honestly, compared to other miatas that i have seen without the ground effects...mine looks better another point would be, when you sell the car, it may be easier to sell with them on it...that is if people like them, although i don't know if it will really help resale value of the car. if you decide on the tC, i would just step back, take a long hard look at the car with the ground effects next to one without the ground effects...and keep telling yourself...do i really want to spend $1000 on that? if you have the extra money and really like the look, then go for it. but me...like i said, i cant afford to spend $1000 on something like that. of course you should test drive each one to see if you really like the feel of it. and by test drive i don't mean those little 10 minute drive around the block test drive. most dealerships are willing to let you take a car for the weekend if you are really interested, but remember; just because you have it for that long does not make you obligated to buy it. try em out. see which one you like better, which one would fit your life better and so on. posted by allone |

I've had a TC since Aug '04 and love it. It has nice pickup with a manual transmission, corners sharply, and is fit and trim in the interior like a more expensive luxury car. Love the pop-up air dam on the sunroof, as I can drive at freeway speeds without alot of wind in the interior. Only complaints: 1. Popping sound from sunroof that the manufacturer has issued a TSB on. Only occurs when turning into a parking lot where the chassis flexes a bit. Had them perform the TSB repair, but it did not work. I'll be going back to have it looked at again. 2. Manual tranny is a little chingy in 1st and 2nd gears, but nothing annoying. 3. The vents on the dash do not angle down very well, without restricting airflow. posted by Scott |

The ONEder Man: some ground effects at a grand plus 150 shipping
eautoworks.com... or the top one here, just over a grand andysautosport.com... Yes, but is that the price for just the body kit or also to have it installed and painted? I doubt it. You will need to at least double the cost for installation, prep and paint. Now, if I had gotten the car for $3K+, then that price isn't that bad. But getting a stock new car for $16K and then putting $4K+ into when it look pretty decent stock is just not a worthy expense right now for me. posted by volonteshiva |

the anomaly: but i also like the mazda rx8...a mate of mine has one...very nice cars Indeed, I really like the look of the rx8 as well, but it is pretty much 2x the cost of the scion tC. Plus the gas mileage on the rx8 really isn't that special which isn't a big deal if that isn't what you are looking for. posted by volonteshiva |
