Footloosifer did this mural on the ground on concrete for a contest when he was a Junior in college. It was later professionally retouched for display. I don't think it's that great now, but when I did it, I was amazed. I drew a "cartoon" sketch of the image in pencil on a piece of typing paper first, then went down to the Student Union, registered for the contest, and drew the damn thing in chalk. If you look at the image, the square "sewer grate" in brown was my alotted space. Needless to say, I was disqualified for drawing outside the lines. Some lady took a picture of it, which I later dug out of the archives and sent away to be retouched. Original size was about 4 feet X 6 feet. The retouchers made some errors, like the green splotch between the eyes, but everything else was my lack of sufficient skill. The mural was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Agent Zero: that's pretty good...you say that's chalk huh? Yeah, chalk. It's called "sidewalk chalk", and it was provided by the contest-holders. The only reason I made the octopus green was that there was so much of the green chalk in the bins. There is no such thing as a green octopus in nature, as far as I know. It's funny because I had green hair at the time, and everyone walking by was saying, "Haha man you got chalk in your hair." Later on my buddy, who is a now a graphic designer, came by and made some suggestions. PS: "dang gone"? You must be a fellow southerner. posted by footloosifer |

This thing is the most incredible, awe-inspiring display of artistic skill I have ever had the good fortune to view. It seems that footloosifer has created the actual vision of heaven that we all get to see at the moment of death. footloosifer, you are truly a god if you can draw such things in chalk. The thousands of hits this page has gotten should be a tip to the admin that this site should really be called footloosifer-octopus.org. Take three scoops of Leonardo da Vinci, add a layer of Picasso chocolate syrup, and top it all off with a Rembrandt cherry, and you have a footloosifer sundae! posted by holy_of_holies |
