Maybe you know about the papal prophecy of Saint Malachias. Approx 1100 AD he wrote his "History of the future" where he listed 112 future popes.

To each pope he wrote 1 short sentence (actually only a few words) and the 111th pope (if you follow Malachy's list) is the current Pope Iosephum Ratzinger (= Benedict XVI).

For this pope Malachy had the cryptic description "Gloria Olivae" = "Glory of the Olive" Silly and stupid, that's how I feel

As you may know, the Order of Saint Benedikt is calling itself "Olivetans".
I spotted a thread on Rigorous Intuition’s forum with more information on this. From that:

The name Ratzinger has chosen for himself is Benedict XVI. There’s a crackpot-scented extremo-Catholic website called catholicplanet.com, and they have already been predicting that the next Pope would call him himself exactly that.

And I checked Google’s cache of the site - they’ve been saying this since before John Paul II died. They didn’t just rush to throw a false retroactive prediction on the web.

...
The Order of Saint Benedict has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks.

What? When? Where? Why?

So what do you think, is that match enough? Is Pope "Benedikt 16" olive's glory?

Pope #112

Pope #112 is the last pope on the list... and the only with a longer description:

"In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End."
What? When? Where? Why?

Please read each description to each pope at

Assuming that the facts stated on that web site are legit (it's very easy to skew facts to fit prophecies) and that the prophecy as stated on that web site is legit, it's possible that the Vatican is aware of this prophecy and is trying to pick candidates that can be seen to fulfill it. We don't know what goes on when they vote. Perhaps they discuss how candidates could fulfill each description.

Nah, one of the popes was "De medietate Lunae" (Of the half of the moon) which is interpreted as a hint at his short life as pope (only 33 days). So I don't think this is how they choose it.

Was Malachy's 112th Papal Prophecy verse added after 1820?

Does anyone know, if it is true, that Malachy's short prophecy about Pope 112 " Petrus Romanus" was indeed added and started to be printed only after 1820? Or was this there all along, but, somehow not printed for hundreds of years?

What of this mystery? Was the 112th Pope verse really not there, in St, Malachy's original prophecies?

Was it there all along, but, for some strange mysterious reason not includded before 1820 ?

Or is this whole thing about the "112th Pope verse of the Malachy prophecis not printed before 1820" just non-sense and was there and printed, all along the centuries ?

Does anybody have a printed copy of the prophecies before 1820? Is the 112th Pope prophecy there or not ?

There is just too much confusion in these end days. We ned to be able to sort the chaff from the wheat about Malachy's Papal prophecies, which in my opinion, are very interesting to study and have proved correct... At least the last ones ie. Pope 109 , 110, 111th. , which are the one I took a look at.

People have been calling these the "end days" for about a thousand years now. I wish I could be alive to see them doing the same thing in the year 4000, too.

Really, give it up. As sick of the world / your own life as you may be, the world's not coming to an end anytime soon.

End Days

Well, we are in the end days. How long this period will be, only God knows.

I think, that starting from when the Isreali race came back to Palestine(1948) and began choosing their leaders, is the beggininig of the end times... You know, the 1948 UN resolution establishing the Isreali nation. By the way, there's also a prophecy in the old testament about this happening.

Not sure which of the old testament prophets it was, though.

Even for more than 1000 years. Israel was wiped out 2000 years ago because they thought they live in the end days. Just see IMO → Have any of the prophecies of the bible been fulfilled?

End Times

Okay, so you don't beleive in prophecy... Hmmm., maybe in nothing spiritual, either.

But, take a look at the last thread of the post on the hyperlink below. This fellow seems to know Bible prophecy. A lot better than I do.

The choice is yours, beleive or perish.

I don't think so. The rapture has to occur, the whole revelation mish mash, etc.

(as pointed out at the link above) The same site that predicted the name also stated
There is another Saint Benedict, a well-known Saint called Saint Benedict the Black (il moro santo, the holy Moor). Pope Benedict XVI will also be like Saint Benedict the Black. Pope Benedict XVI will be a black man, like Saint Benedict the Moor.

I learned something new, I guess
NO wait, it was updated
Quote:
[Note added April 19, 2005: I was mistaken when I thought that the next pope after John Paul II would be black. I am fallible. My predictions are also fallible. By the way, the prediction that the next pope after John Paul II would be black is not a figure of speech, nor a metaphor. I was simply wrong.]

Ah, I see, and what was it that changed your mind? perhaps the absence of black skin on the new pope White laugh

So the Vatican might be willing to select candidates that fit the mould of the prophesy, and encourage them to adopt the right name, but it seems they will only go so far. I learned something new, I guess

The future and The Popes

Well, beleive it or not, that document makes a lot more sense to me than many of the current, popular and published interpretations of Bible Prophecy that I have seen.

Many, of these prhecies speak of horsemen, Swords, ect... that don't make any sense during our times.

But, will, after a couple of nuclear holocausts bring mankind back to the stone age.

A world of shortages, famines, diseases and a breakdown of social order.

History seems to be divided along 500 year periods and those in 50 year periods...aprox.

From that interpretaion alone, and not prophecy, it's not too long of a stretch to imagine that Europe and the tail end of this civilzation(America) are close to a major " Change ".

Change...can and will often be a very painful process, for individuals as well as nations ...and entire civilizations.

How sad...How Tragic...

Well, on the bright side. We're young, and popes are old. Which means there's a good chance we'll live to see the 113th pope. And when that happens, I propose that all IMOers meet together and go piss on Malachy's grave.
