sangu: Nope, I don't think the bible says there are no aliens. Based on what it says though, we're PROBABLY the only living things here on earth. I'm not sure if it's open to interpretation, haven't learned much about the christian view on ET life. Wouldn't Jesus want you to make up your own mind on things he would have no way of knowing about while on Earth? It's not like the Jews were big on astronomy or anything like that... posted by holy_of_holies |

God the father wasn't on earth. I was thinking to the passages in Genesis. But like I said, the people who wrote Genesis had no concept of astronomy...so how could God the Father have spoken through them about aliens if the writers of the Bible didn't even know there were other planets? In other words, I can't write a book in Korean because I don't know the language...even if God wants me to write it, I have to learn the language first, and if I have no one to teach it to me, then I can't write the book God wants...so even if the Hebrews wanted Genesis to include alien planets, they couldn't have written it! posted by holy_of_holies |

holy_of_holies: so even if the Hebrews wanted Genesis to include alien planets, they couldn't have written it! They could have, but not have fully understood what God meant. So I tell you to write some words from a foreign language, and spell em out for you. You can diligently write it out, without having any clue or little knowledge about it. Maybe years later, when you're more familiarized with the language, you go, "hah! I get it know." posted by sangu |

So who decides what they meant when they were writing the Bible? Who decides whether or not we are supposed to believe that aliens exist? Because if Genesis is true, then there are no aliens unless there were another Adam and Eve on another planet. Then of course there would have to be another Jesus, or maybe that Adam and Eve did not sin, so they didn't need redemption...and there can't be double or triple or quadruple Jesuses, so that means Earth is it. Which in one respect I agree with because I don't think there is intelligent life on other planets. But the Bible was not what convinced me of that, and that's another thread. posted by holy_of_holies |

The ONEder Man: how did this topic turn religious? bah Sorry. Guilty. *Sneaks away* holy_of_holies: So who decides what they meant when they were writing the Bible? Who decides whether or not we are supposed to believe that aliens exist? God knows what he means, but humans don't always get it. Sooner or later, i think they come around to it. Like the prophecies, revelations, etc. One of the reasons I say this, is Jesus kept telling his disciples that he was going to die, eventually rise from the dead, and that Judas was going to betray him. Even the parables. The disciples didn't get it. Jesus had to explain the parables to them. The disciples didn't understand that judas was going to betray him (if they had, they would've killed/stopped him), nor did they fully comprehend that Jesus was going to leave them. posted by sangu |

knn: With the first post. "God's existance I can prove" or similar... we all know you think god is an alien knn, let's stick to what most people think of when they see the heading to the topic, if we do that, then these responses are offtopic. posted by The ONEder Man |
